Question:
Describe a film that you watched recently
You should say:
what the film was about
when and where you watched it
whether you liked or disliked it
why you wanted to discuss it
part 3 for this cue card is 'Movies'
Answer:
Recently, I watched *Interstellar*, a science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie is about a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new habitable planet for humanity, as Earth is suffering from environmental decline. The story delves into themes like love, survival, and the intricate relationship between time and space.
I watched it last weekend at home during a movie night with friends. It was my second time watching it, but it still amazed me with its visual effects and thought-provoking storyline.
I really liked *Interstellar*. The stunning visuals of space, the emotional connection between the characters, and the complex scientific ideas presented in a somewhat digestible way make it one of my favorite movies. The score by Hans Zimmer also added a lot of emotional weight to the film.
I wanted to discuss it because *Interstellar* raises important questions about human survival and explores the boundaries of science and emotion. It's the kind of film that stays with you, prompting deeper reflection on topics like family, the future of humanity, and the unknowns of the universe.
---
For *Part 3* (Movies), here are some potential discussion questions:
1. What makes a good movie? – You can talk about how storylines, acting, visuals, and emotional impact shape a memorable film.
2. Why do people enjoy watching movies? – You could explore how movies provide escapism, education, or shared experiences.
3. How do movies reflect culture? – Films often mirror societal values, historical moments, and cultural changes.

Question:
Describe a time when you helped your family member
You should say:
when it was
how you helped your family member
why you helped him or her
how you felt about it
part 3-'Helping others
Answer:
A recent time I helped a family member was last year when my sister was moving into a new apartment. It was quite a hectic day because she had a lot of furniture, boxes, and personal items to transport. The move happened over a weekend, so I set aside an entire Saturday to help her.
I helped by loading her furniture and boxes into a rental truck, driving it to her new place, and then unloading everything. We also spent a few hours unpacking and setting up her furniture, which took some time but felt satisfying once everything was in place.
I helped her because she was managing the move alone and was feeling overwhelmed. I knew it would be much easier with some support, and I didn’t want her to go through the stress by herself.
I felt really good about it. Not only did I feel like I was able to make the process smoother for her, but it was also a bonding experience. Helping someone out, especially family, always brings a sense of fulfillment and strengthens relationships.
For Part 3 (Helping Others), here are some potential discussion topics:
Why is it important to help others? – You can discuss how helping creates a sense of community and support.
How do people generally help others in your country? – Explore examples of common ways people offer help, such as volunteering, financial support, or community work.
Should children be taught to help others? – This could touch on the importance of instilling empathy and cooperation from a young age.

Answer:
One person I'm happy to know is my close friend, Alex. We met during college, as we were both studying in the same program and ended up sitting next to each other in a class. Our first conversation was casual, but over time, we discovered many shared interests, from music to philosophy, which helped us connect on a deeper level.
We often spend time hanging out, whether it's grabbing coffee, discussing new ideas, or watching films together. We also like taking spontaneous road trips, where we explore new places and have long conversations about life, culture, and our personal aspirations.

Describe an indoor or outdoor place where it was
easy for you to study
You should say:
where it was
when you went there
what you studied there
who you went with
why you liked to study there
Answer:
One place where it was easy for me to study was the library at my university. It was located in a quiet corner of the campus, surrounded by trees, which made the environment peaceful. I usually went there in the late afternoons after my classes, as it wasn’t too crowded during that time.
I often studied various subjects there, ranging from philosophy to history, depending on what exams or assignments I had coming up. I would occasionally meet up with friends, but most of the time, I preferred going alone to focus better.
What made the library ideal was the quietness and the access to a wide range of resources. It had comfortable seating and large windows that let in natural light, creating a calm atmosphere. Studying there helped me concentrate, and the peaceful surroundings made it easier for me to absorb the material.

Questions:
Describe an interesting place you have been to
with a friend
You should say:
what place it was
why you went there
what you did there
why you think it's interesting
Answer:
An interesting place I visited with a friend was an ancient temple complex in a remote part of the countryside. We went there out of curiosity, as we both enjoy exploring historical sites and wanted to see something off the beaten path. The temple was nestled in a valley, surrounded by lush greenery, which gave it a mystical and serene atmosphere.
When we arrived, we spent hours walking through the ruins, admiring the intricate carvings on the stone walls and learning about the history of the place. We also took a lot of photos and spent some time just sitting and absorbing the peaceful energy of the location. There were very few people around, which made it feel like we had the place to ourselves.
I think it was interesting because it felt like stepping back in time. The architecture, the stillness of the area, and the fact that it was relatively untouched by tourism made it a unique experience. It was not just visually stunning but also gave us a chance to reflect on the history and culture of the region.

What is your least favourite day of the week?
What's your favourite day of the week?
Please describe your typical daily routine.
Is there anything that you do every day? [Why?/Why not?]
What do you usually do at weekends?
My least favorite day of the week is probably Monday. After the weekend, it can feel a bit tough to get back into the work routine, and the workload often feels heavier at the start of the week.
On the other hand, my favorite day is Friday. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing the workweek, and there’s a relaxed atmosphere knowing the weekend is just around the corner.
My typical daily routine starts with waking up early, having breakfast, and getting ready for work. I then spend most of the day coding, attending meetings, and collaborating with my team on various projects. After work, I usually take some time to unwind, either by exercising or spending time with family. In the evening, I might read, watch a show, or do some personal coding projects.
One thing I do every day is check my emails and prioritize my tasks for the day. This helps me stay organized and ensures that I’m on top of important deadlines.
On weekends, I like to spend time relaxing with family, going for walks, or occasionally working on personal projects. It’s a time to recharge and focus on things outside of work.

Can you describe your perfect
holiday?
Which do you prefer, to spend
time on a beach or have
excursions in a city?
What was the best holiday in
your life?
Perfect Holiday:
My perfect holiday would be a balance of relaxation and adventure. I’d love to spend a few days in a scenic, tranquil location, maybe somewhere near the mountains or by the sea, with breathtaking views and peaceful surroundings. I’d enjoy exploring local culture, trying out new food, and maybe even hiking or engaging in some outdoor activities. But I'd also appreciate downtime to relax, read, and just enjoy the natural beauty. A mix of exploration and relaxation would make it ideal.
Beach or City Excursions?
I prefer city excursions over the beach. While beaches are relaxing, I love the energy and culture of cities. Exploring new places, visiting museums, historic landmarks, and trying out different foods in bustling markets excites me. Cities have so much to offer in terms of culture and experiences that I find intriguing.
Best Holiday:
The best holiday I’ve had was a trip to Japan. It was a perfect blend of modern city life and rich cultural history. I explored Tokyo’s vibrant cityscapes, visited ancient temples in Kyoto, and enjoyed the beautiful landscapes in the countryside. The food, the technology, the tradition—it was an experience that left a lasting impression on me. It was a journey filled with discovery, and I came back feeling refreshed and inspired.

Describe a difficult task that you completed at work or study that you felt proud of.
You should say:
What the task was
How you completed it
Why the task was difficult
And explain why you were proud of the completion of the task
One of the most challenging tasks I completed as a software engineer was leading the development of a new feature for an e-commerce platform. The task was to build a recommendation system that would suggest personalized products to users based on their browsing and purchase history. This required integrating machine learning algorithms into the platform, which was something I had never done before.
To complete the task, I first had to familiarize myself with the machine learning concepts and tools necessary to build the recommendation engine. I spent time researching and consulting with data scientists on my team. After understanding the requirements, I designed the architecture and implemented the system, making sure it worked seamlessly with the platform's existing infrastructure. I also collaborated closely with other engineers to ensure that the system would scale effectively under heavy user loads.
The task was difficult because it involved learning new technologies and managing the integration of complex algorithms in a high-traffic environment. Additionally, we faced tight deadlines and had to ensure minimal downtime for the platform. I felt proud of the completion because not only did the system work as expected, but it also led to a noticeable increase in user engagement and sales. It was a rewarding experience that pushed me to grow both technically and professionally.
