Did you know that during Tipu Sultan’s campaigns in the Malabar region (today’s northern Kerala), he boasted in his own letters about forcibly converting large numbers of Hindus to Islam?
His correspondence details methods such as forced circumcision, compelling people to eat beef, and carrying out mass conversions of communities like the Nairs and Brahmins all as part of his military campaigns and religious policy.

In a letter dated January 19, 1790, addressed to commander Budruz Zuman Khan, he reportedly wrote:

“Don’t you know that I have achieved a great victory in Malabar, and that over four lakh Hindus were converted to Islam?”

In another letter, dated January 18, 1790, to Syed Abdul Dulai, he claimed:

“With the grace of Prophet Mohammed and Allah, almost all Hindus in Calicut are converted to Islam. Only on the borders of Cochin State a few remain unconverted. I am determined to convert them very soon. I consider this as Jehad.”
