The Education Ministry has proposed that the upcoming Shiksha Adhishthan body will adopt a UGC-like funding mechanism for higher education institutions in India.

Government intends to replace UGC with a new body called Shiksha Adhishthan.

Just like UGC currently does, Shiksha Adhishthan would distribute funds to universities and colleges.

Under the proposed reform framework:

Shiksha Adhishthan → funding and grants

National Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC) → regulation of universities

National Accreditation Council (NAC) → accreditation and quality assessment

This is meant to separate funding, regulation, and accreditation, which are currently concentrated under UGC.
