Govt. mandates sale of 20% ethanol-blended petrol with minimum RON 95 nationwide from April 1

The oil ministry, in a February 17 notification, said, "the central government hereby directs that oil companies shall sell ethanol-blended motor spirit (petrol) with a percentage of ethanol up to 20% as per the Bureau of Indian Standards specifications and having a minimum Research Octane Number (RON) of 95, in States and the Union Territories".

The central government can allow exceptions in special situations, for specific regions and for a limited time.

Research Octane Number (RON) is the standard measure of a gasoline's ability to resist engine knocking (pre-ignition/detonation) at low speeds and under light loads, simulating typical city driving. A higher RON indicates better stability and higher knock resistance, allowing for higher compression ratios in engines.

Responding to a question during a press conference, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, GOC-in-C, Western Command, says,

"You saw that on the 7th (May, 2025), we carried out attacks on all their terrorist bases. After that, they attempted some retaliatory action. In response, we destroyed their military and air bases in such a manner that they were severely damaged. Following this, they requested a ceasefire. The ceasefire request was not made directly to us alone. We believe they also sent messages to other countries, asking them to help facilitate a ceasefire with India. This shows, in our view, that they do not have the capacity to sustain a fight against us. Wherever we strike them, they will try to find a way to secure a ceasefire with India."

When asked how India will respond if there's Operation Sindoor 2.0, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar says,

"The response will be stronger than what we have done in Operation Sindoor. How much we respond, till what level -It all depends on the situation prevailing on that particular day, on that particular time. But we are very sure that we have to respond harsher than what we did last time."

Regarding Operation Sindoor, Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, GOC of Kharga Corps (2 Corps), says,

"...We gave Pakistan a very small sample in the operation. In just 4 days, they were brought to their knees and called our DGMO and asked to stop this war... This was a very small example, and its purpose was training."

"Operation Sindoor is ongoing... The preparations for Operation Sindoor 2 are quite extensive. I cannot tell you right now how this operation will unfold because it will depend on how much damage we want to cause to the enemy.
