Trump’s proposed 20-point Gaza plan calls for a stabilisation force made up of troops from Muslim countries to oversee a transition period for reconstruction and economic recovery.
Many countries are hesitant to join such a force. Efforts to disarm Hamas could drag them into the conflict and spark anger at home among pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli populations.
For Pakistan, the choice is difficult. Refusing to contribute could irritate Trump, while participation risks once again putting Pakistani soldiers on the line in a conflict that offers little direct benefit to the country.
