Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to travel to Washington for his third meeting with President Donald Trump in six months. The talks are likely to focus on Gaza.

Trump’s proposed 20-point Gaza plan calls for a stabilisation force made up of troops from Muslim countries to oversee a transition period for reconstruction and economic recovery.

Many countries are hesitant to join such a force. Efforts to disarm Hamas could drag them into the conflict and spark anger at home among pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli populations.

For Pakistan, the choice is difficult. Refusing to contribute could irritate Trump, while participation risks once again putting Pakistani soldiers on the line in a conflict that offers little direct benefit to the country.
