15 years ago the price of Bitcoin on the Mt. Gox exchange briefly crashed from around $17.50 to just $0.01 within minutes. The flash crash occurred after hackers compromised an administrative Mt. Gox account and used it to place massive fraudulent sell orders, overwhelming the exchange’s order book. The affected trades were later reversed by Mt. Gox.
