Love can become your greatest weakness

Deep-seated fear of loss. He went from slavery and the inability to protect those he loved toward the dark side, so that he would never again be weak and helpless.

Primary defense mechanism: Armor of Rage + Self-Erasure. He has buried Anakin's identity beneath Vader's mask and rage in order to avoid confronting his grief, shame, and failed love.

The lie he tells himself: "The dark side has freed me. Anakin's weak emotions are dead."

Hidden fear: Returning to that same scared slave boy who couldn't save his mother. Fear that all his crimes won't bring back Padmé or peace.

Things he would never admit: He never fully killed Anakin. The love for his son and the memory of Padmé were still alive.
