Dharma (เคงเคฐเฅเคฎ) is a way of life which integrates an individual/society & brings harmonious living. It has 4 'pillars' or principles which uphold it.

1. Austerity (เคคเคช)- acts of discipline and endurance, in order to achieve a higher goal. E.g : simplicity, satisfaction, self-control. Worship of the lord, and superiors like one's father, mother & spiritual master

2. Truthfulness (เคธเคคเฅเคฏ) - Not only speaking the Truth, but also being HONEST TO ONESELF and living up to what one knows is right.

3. Compassion (เคฆเคฏเคพ) - Human beings have certain capabilities and powers, more than lower species. But that does not mean that we be inconsiderate to others. We must have mercy & compassion for all living beings.

4. Cleanliness (เคถเฅŒเคš)- both physical cleanliness & mental purity. This includes fidelity and respect towards one's marriage, when one is in that stage of life.

Wherever these 4 are maintained, there is fast spiritual progress & lasting happiness.

~Srimad Bhagavatam

Self confidence and ambition

Ambition indicates lack of self-confidence! When you know you can achieve something easily, you are not ambitious about it. You are simply confident about it. Your ambition indicates challenge and uncertainty, which is contrary to self-confidence. So one you has total self-confidence cannot be ambitious!!
At the same time a person who lacks total self-confidence cannot be ambitious either!! For ambition to be, one must have a little bit of confidence and total ignorance of the Self. It is next to impossible to have total confidence without Self-knowledge. With the knowledge of the Self, there is nothing left to achieve, for the entire nature of existence is mere play and display of one's own consciousness. People take pride in being ambitious. The wise man will only smile at them. Ambition can never be for
something you know you can achieve effortlessly. You can only be ambitious about something for which you have to put effort, which poses a challenge and of which you are not even certain you will be able to achieve or not. Moreover it takes away the joy of the moment. With the Self-knowledge nothing is challenging to you, nor you need to put any effort. Nature is ready to fulfill your intention even before they arise, giving you no chance to crave or desire. Nature does not allow the wise to have a desire (ambition), and the unwise to fulfill or get rid of the desire (ambition).
Do you still want to be ambitious ?? Or is your only ambition is to get rid of ambition !! (Laughter )

Before blaming others for making us feel a certain way, let's learn to ask "what is it in me that got triggered by their actions?" Every emotion and feeling takes place within us! Everytime others trigger a pain response, it's a perfect opportunity to reflect on where it is coming from and how it was created! In this way, all relationships become mirrors: to deeply understand and know ourselves ๐Ÿ™

โ€œThere is no conflict in you, the Self. If there is conflict, it is between thought and thought. As long as the sense of โ€˜Iโ€™ and 'otherโ€™ is believed, conflict is inevitable. Through self-inquiry confirm again and again: I am the Self, the complete and indivisible whole.โ€

Q. Dear Bhagavan, what is Oneness spirit, Bhagavan?

Sri Bhagavan: Oneness spirit means first of all you must realize that there is no sameness in the world, nor is it possible, nor is it desirable. We are all different. We create the other and the other is creating us. We are all mutually dependent. The beauty is we're all different. But we're all one. Realizing this is the spirit of Oneness. Seeing how the other is different. And because of that the other is helping you. If we all were the same, there would be no humanity at all. Appreciating this difference is what we call Oneness. When you see this, you are filled with love for the other. You would develop concern for the other. You would develop care for the other and you would become responsible for the other. That is the spirit of Oneness.

In Sufi terms the crushing of the ego is called Nafs Kushi.
And how do we crush it?
We crush it by sometimes taking ourselves to task. When the self says, 'O no, I must not be treated like this,' then we say, 'What does it matter?' When the self says, 'He ought to have done this, she ought to have said that,' we say, 'What does it matter, either this way or that way? Every person is what he is; you cannot change him, but you can change yourself.' That is the crushing... It is only in this way that we can crush our ego.

โ€‹โ€‹75. Know that a flawless yogi is one who does not ever allow himself to be swayed by desire for the pleasures of the senses, who frees himself at heart from mamakara treating things as "mine", who has a steadfast mind, who is free from desires and fear, and who always revels in the Self.
