I set up a client account on Upwork and posted a job just to see the experience on the client side and see the results.

I noticed that if you don't boost your proposal or profile, the chance of being noticed by a client is literally zero. Boosted profiles appear first, and the client has to click "See More" to view your profile which is unlikely since they don't really care to see all profiles they will just pick the proposals that comes at the top.
