So I was working on the GTP (Graduate Talent Pool) project for Dashen Breweries. It is basically a recruitment platform for their talent pool, serving over 7,000 graduate students from different universities. Students can apply, submit their documents and CVs, and the system also features QR code-based check-in and application screening.

While working on this, they mentioned that since the potential candidates will be fresh graduates, they might not have a cv. Therefore, we should include a cv builder. Since I only had a week for this project, I decided to implement it this way. There are some open source cv builders on GitHub, so I took one, extended its codebase to integrate with the original GTP platform by configuring Docker and adding some compatibility features, and deployed it with our own domain. Now, if a student doesn't have a cv to upload, they can simply generate different CVs using this tool and submit that for the application.

Let me tell you about one of my closest friends.

He's honestly one of the best ppl I've ever met. He's always there whenever you need him, and he's one of the coolest and most down-to-earth people I know. We've been close friends since freshman year, and throughout all that time, he's never tried to seek attention or make himself the center of everything.

If you need to know about almost anything, he's the person to ask. Sports, anime, tech, movies, F1, boxing, books games, or just random stuff, somehow he knows a little bit about everything. And whenever you're in trouble or need advice, he's always there for you.

What I admire most about him is his humility. He never flexes, never brags, and keeps a really low profile. For example, he had a car, and I only found out about it in our late second year(even he is not the one who told me) πŸ˜‚. Even now, only a small group of people know this. That's just the kind of person he is.

I'm genuinely grateful to have people like him in my life. Thank God for blessing me with friends like this.

My plans as a dropout:

1. Making my startup international (will share details soon)
2. Turn the digital marketing companies I manage to each 500k birr+ worth within these 3 months.
3. work on achieving my 3 goals that I have planned at the start of 2018. (Moving out to live by myself (βœ…), opening a mini restaurant for my mom (⏳), getting to a networth of 1 Million birr (⏳)).

The process is not going to be easy, but it's worth every pain. πŸ”₯
I would love to know your plan for this summer.

Article of the day

There are two numbers that determine how big a startup gets, and thus how rich its founders become: the growth rate and how long it continues. You get the first by making something users like so much they tell their friends. You get the second by being in a big market. If you grow exponentially into a big market, your startup will become valuable, and you, as a shareholder, will become rich. You not only don't have to cheat to make this happen, it will happen automatically if you just keep making customers happy.

I really admired Nael Hailemariam (founder and CEO of Chapa), and man, this podcast is really fire. I learned so much, and he said this at the end:

From America, I learned innovation.
From Europe, I learned wisdom.
From Asia, I learned speed and discipline.
From Africa, it is hope.

Do you know that Anthropic named their code agent Claude after Claude Shannon, a computer scientist who first wrote a paper on prediction algorithms and measured this similarity using entropy, a thermodynamic principle

Today I learned one of the simplest ways antivirus software detects malware: signature based detection.

The basic idea is pretty cool. Every file has a unique fingerprint (called a hash), and antivirus software keeps a huge database of fingerprints and signatures from known malware. When you scan a file, it compares it against that database. If there's a match, it gets flagged as malicious.
It's a simple but really effective approach for detecting malware that's already known.
