A fast-spreading parasitic outbreak has sparked a federal investigation into Taco Bell’s iceberg lettuce supply. More than 5,000 illnesses have been reported nationwide, while the CDC has officially confirmed about 1,600 cases across 34 states. Federal officials are reportedly tracing the outbreak to Mexican-grown lettuce distributed by Taylor Farms.

Taco Bell says it has voluntarily removed potentially affected lettuce from a supplier in select states and is indefinitely removing the ingredient from its nationwide supply chain. The company says it will replace the lettuce within 24 hours.
