🎯 Government’s Target: Drug-Free India

🔹 Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set December 31, 2029, as the deadline to eradicate drug networks across India.

🔹 The government’s strategy is outlined in the Vision Document on Drug Control (2026–2029), launched on June 26, 2026, at a meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD).

🔹 The plan involves coordination among States and Union Territories, more than 40 Ministries, central agencies and the pharmaceutical sector.

🔹 Its major objectives include dismantling 100 major drug cartels and improving prosecution outcomes so that those responsible are successfully convicted.

📈 Increase in Drug-Related Enforcement

🔹 Data for 2025 show an increase of over 50% in arrests compared with 2024.

🔹 Cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act increased by nearly 53% over the same period.

🔹 These figures indicate increased enforcement activity, but they do not automatically prove that drug trafficking, availability or consumption has declined.
