So many people I know who work in universities are all ranting and raving and complaining about politics. Not just on social media, but at the start of business meetings. They assume everyone thinks like them. They love just loudly critiquing everything conservative and making fun of anyone who isn’t in their echo chamber. They can’t quite grasp how intolerant they’re being of alternate viewpoints, presuming only idiots are not liberal like them. There’s a smug confidence that they’re obviously correct. I guess that hasn’t really changed, but it’s hilarious how they just assume everyone has the same opinion as them and are getting more vocal about it this year. Let them cope and seethe, I suppose, and pity their lack of self-awareness at their own intolerance.

The octopus is a highly intelligent creature that evolved intelligence at an evolutionary branch point far in the past, pre-mammal.

The tentacles are themselves somewhat intelligent (its neurons are somewhat concentrated in its head but really spread to local tentacles for local distributed intelligence).

When we colonize the galaxy and have to deal with speed of light issues regarding communication, we’re going to need to model our efforts after the octopus, letting the individual tentacles have their own local neural clusters of intelligence while remaining connected to the whole.

Some people say Elon Musk is taking his son around as “a human meat shield”?! What an absolutely horrible thing to say about someone! I’m aghast that people actually believe that. If the bullets start flying, he hopes his son gets hit and bleeds out instead of himself??? I hope I never speak to anyone in person who believes that. I’d tell them how disgusting that line of thinking is, I’d ask them what’s their evidence of this, and I’d say this says more about them to even conceive of this. I’d make them feel so ashamed for even voicing that opinion outloud, and hopefully get them to admit shamefully that they didn’t come up with that thought, they’re just parroting it from elsewhere. I’d make them actually try to explain and visualize, in grotesque detail, what they’re actually saying. There’s too many knee-jerk reactions and opinions without truly digging down and wondering who they are and where they’re getting their opinions.

You learn a lot about human nature going to different types of bars at a weekday midnight. Learn to blend in and talk to everyone.

The next set of attacks against America will likely be AI-enhanced cyberattacks, as open source AI models and agents that can write code and run scripts proliferate.

Corollary: Any budding politician would do well to get in early about sounding the alarm for cyber attacks as an underrated threat. A major attack will happen before long, and you can position yourself as “taking it seriously” before your colleagues.
