DISTRESSING VIDEO: Princess held hostage?
The daughter of the ruler of Dubai - Princess Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum - can be seen in distressing video clips taken from a phone smuggled into the villa she says she is imprisoned in.
"I'm a hostage, I'm not free. I am prisoned in this jail. My life is not in my hands," she claims.
Princess Latifa was intercepted by UAE authorities while attempting to flee Dubai in a yacht in 2018. A year later, her friend Tiina Jauhiainen helped to smuggle her a phone.
"She is so pale, she hasn't seen sunlight for months. She can basically move just from her room to the kitchen and back," says Jauhiainen.
However, the UN high commissioner for human rights, Mary Robinson, said Princess Latifa suffers from a serious bipolar problem, and that she is in fact being cared for by her family.
