Vote% in J&K Assembly election 2024 is even more than vote % of general election 2024 (Nealy 65%). What do we infer from this?

(1) Sense of normalcy and faith in Indian democracy has been intact in majority of people.

(2) Abrogation of Article 370 and inculcating democracy in J&K show that top down approach is also functional to some extent.

Happy Gandhi Jayanti to everybody. India has been fortune to have one of the greatest personality of the 20th century. Even after 70 years, his ideas and values are relevant in today's world.

I would like to give an example to illustrate it. After independence, his ideas of village republic didn't get central stage amid centralized system of Nehruvian planning. But today the goal of achieving $5 trillion economy increasing the relevance of Gandhian planning by focusing on MSMEs (30% of GDP) and small cottage industries.

C. Radhakrishna Rao, retired at the age of sixty and went to live with his daughter in America along with his grandchildren.

There, at the age of 62, he became a professor of statistics at the University of Pittsburgh and at the age of 70, he became the head of the department at the University of Pennsylvania.

US citizenship at the age of 75. National Medal For Science at the age of 82, a White House honor.

Today, at the age of 102, he received the Nobel Prize in Statistics.

Moral of the story: Every end has a new begining. Never judge yourself by one exam, one event or one career. Life has many layers like a onion. After every layer, an eureka moment can be witnessed.

Israel's defence development is interdependent on USA for components. The US has reversed right to veto against use or sell such weapon to USA's adversaries. In this backdrop, Israel has declined selling some of the defense component on the name of such interdependence. Then why USA is not doing the same in this case? Can we call such watery words as hypocrisy of international politics?

Strategic move by India to distinguish between what India exactly wants and what nots. Such clarity makes a foreign policy more robust and functional.

"Winds of Wisdom"
Let the winds of wisdom flow,
From every corner, high and low.
Through whispered truths and stories told,
From every culture, every land,
Together, let us take a stand.
With open hearts and eager minds,
May wisdom's breeze unite all kinds.

What are the Arguments in Favour of Ladakh's Demand for Inclusion in the 6th Schedule?

[1] Lack of Public Participation: After dilution of Article 370, Ladakh was designated as a Union Territory without a legislative assembly. Thus, the decision-making has shifted from public participation to bureaucratic processes.

[2] Ladakh’s Fragile ecosystem: Climate activists have flagged concerns regarding mining in the glacial ecology. People in Ladakh fear that if there are industries, each industry will bring lakhs of people and this fragile ecosystem cannot support so many people.

[3] Border sensitivity: Addressing the China-Pakistan axis necessitates strategic infrastructure development supported by the local community. It demands 6th schedule for the people in Ladakh.

[4] Preservation of Cultural Identity: Inclusion in the 6th Schedule would provide legal safeguards to protect Ladakh's unique cultural heritage and traditional customs. The 6th Schedule empowers tribal communities with a degree of autonomy in governance.

[5] Strengthening of Democratic Institutions: The establishment of autonomous councils under the Sixth Schedule would strengthen democratic institutions at the grassroots level, promoting inclusive governance and accountability.

Very good article on Israel and West Asia equation.

Before Hamas attack

1. Israel believed that it had established a new status quo - occupation without consequences.

2. The Arabs believed that the Palestine issue had lost its geopolitical currency and that they could go ahead with formalising their decades-long back-room relationship with Israel.

3. The U.S. wanted to bring the Sunni Arabs and the Israelis, two pillars of its West Asia strategy, closer in its bid to reshape West Asia and isolate Iran.

After Hamas attack Israel is fighting 3-tier war in West Asia

[1] At the bottom tier, Israel went to Gaza with two declared objectives — to destroy Hamas and secure the release of hostages.

[2] In the middle, it wants to push Hezbollah from the border region of Lebanon and stop the Shia militia from launching rockets into Israel so that the displaced residents of the Upper Galilee region can return to their homes.

[3] At the top, it wants to weaken Iran, its main regional rival. Israel sees the conflict, as the former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett put it, as a war against a rival octopus. Iran is the head of the octopus and the militias (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Hashad al-Shabi, etc.) are the tentacles.
