But why countries are leaving BRI? Lets connect the dots
🔥2
🤔 Reasons behind leaving China's BRI

[1] Debt Sustainability: If these countries struggle to repay their debts, it can lead to economic instability and a dependency on China.

[2] Transparency and Governance: There are concerns about the lack of transparency in the bidding and contracting processes for BRI projects because of top down approach adopted by China.

[3] Environmental Impact: The construction of large infrastructure projects can have significant environmental consequences, including deforestation, habitat destruction, and increased carbon emissions.

[4] Social issues: BRI projects often involve the displacement of local communities and can have social and cultural impacts.

[5] Security concerns: Some BRI projects traverse regions with security challenges, such as political instability, terrorism, and geopolitical conflicts.

[6] Currency risk: Many BRI projects involve financing in Chinese yuan. Exchange rate fluctuations and the dependence on a single currency can expose participating countries to currency risks

Supreme Court Judgement on abrogation of Article 370

[1] On the Abrogation question: Jammu and Kashmir does not have any 'internal sovereignty' different from other States.

[2] On the matter of statehood: It seeks restoration of Statehood to J&K ‘at the earliest’, and elections by Sept. 30, 2024.

[3] On the issue of president power: The court says President validly exercised power in removing special privileges under Article 370. The President, in exercise of power under Article 370(3), can unilaterally issue a notification that Article 370 ceases to exist.

[4] On the point of making Ladakh UT: Decision to carve out the Union Territory of Ladakh is valid, the top court adds.

[5] On the nature Article 370: Its status under Article 370 is only a form of asymmetric federalism. From its historical context, it is clear that Article 370 is only a temporary provision.

Let's decode this fault lines
European Union is currently facing challenges from inside as well as outside

Inside EU

[1] Core Vs Periphery: Core countries like France and Germany view EU as an organisation with the basic purpose to maintain strong economy. However, PIIGS countries including Portuguese and Greece do not agree with it and believed in social welfare programmes.

[2] Old Europe Vs New Europe: Old Europe who joined before cold war. New Europe who joined after cold war - largely eastern Europe. There is a big difference in their value system. Therefore, values clash are seen. That's why Turkey's admission in EU is not encouraged.

Outside EU

[1] Influence of China and Russia: Hungary in EU is seen as close to China and Russia. Consequently, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban in December 2023 blocked 50 billion euros ($55 billion) in EU aid for Ukraine. During pandemic, Hungary and Serbia were seen very close to China on "Corona Virus debate".

[2] Political instability in middle east: EU countries are divided between those backing calls for a ceasefire in Gaza in 2023 — supported by the overwhelming majority of the UN General Assembly — and those supporting the stance of Israel and the U.S. that a ceasefire would bind Israel’s hands as it tries to destroy Hamas.

[3] Uncertainty of USA: France openly said that EU can't rely on US for security. The role of Britain in the EU had been seen as an "agent" of US in EU that used to keep check on EU on the line US dictums.
