Paul Brass was an American political scientist known for his research on the politics of India. What did he say about phenomenon of riots in India?

Paul Brass’s formulated an institutionalised riot system (IRS), based on his study of riots in Aligarh and Meerut. According to Paul Brass, there are at least three phases: preparation/rehearsal, activation/enactment and then explanation/interpretation. Given the ideological spin accorded to interpretation of riots, it seems the truth about the anatomy of riot will elude many.

In 2014, a company called
'Saubhagya Wet Grinder' was a sponsor in some event where
Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was the chief guest.

The sponsor presented a gift to him which he respectfully declined to accept. The sponsor explained that it was just a grinder and requested him to accept. He took the gift without any further argument.

Next day, APJ sent his person to the market to find out price of grinder. He later made out a cheque from his personal account of market price and sent it across to company.

As expected company decided not to deposit cheque.

The story does not end here. He followed up with his bank and when due deduction did not happen in time, he informed company to deposit cheque or else he would be constrained to send grinder back.

Seeing his resolve, the company deposited cheque but made a photocopy of same and framed it and kept it on display.
