This is the 6th Topper Journey & Strategy post from the Batch of 2023.

Philosophy optional performance over the years has been a cause of concern for those who have opted this optional. The numbers are telling as % of number of candidates in final list viz-a-viz number of candidates who wrote Mains with philosophy is 7.9% (2013), 7% (2014), 5.5% (2015), 5.2% (2016), 7% (2017), 9.1% (2018), 6.2% (2019) and 5.8% (2020).

As Avinash has mentioned in his writeup, he didn’t take note of the same and as it stands, he aced CSE-22 with AIR-17 & scored 319 Marks in Philosophy Optional.

Out of 176 Marksheets that I have analyzed so far, 319 in optional is the 4th highest score and highest for Philosophy!

Ethics Section-A Analysis 2018-2022 for Decode Ethics 4.0.pdf

Ethics Section-A Analysis 2018-22

This is the analysis of 2018-2022 Ethics papers (GS-4) that I did before beginning with the updation work for 4th edition of Decode Ethics book.

UPSC has clearly moved on from asking basic terms and is now focussing on interlinking of various topics and on ethical considerations around contemporary and current issues.

Focus is on application of theories and thinkers rather than just asking theories per se.

Here, one should focus on themes and kind of questions asked. Aspirants need to be mindful and prepare accordingly.

This is the 7th Topper Journey & Strategy post from the Batch of 2023.

Virendra Kumar Meena secured AIR-883 in his 4th attempt in Hindi Medium and has cleared Prelims thrice i.e. in 2020, 2021 & 2022, arguably the toughest years to do so untill the 2023 Prelims.

Virendra could not clear Prelims in his first attempt. In his next two attempts he could not clear Mains. This attempt was his first Interview and he did well to find his name in the final list.

Following is his tried & tested prelims strategy where he has clearly listed topic wise sources:

This is the 8th Topper Journey & Strategy post from the Batch of 2023.

Following is journey & strategy of Jatin Jain who cleared CSE-22 with AIR-91. This was his 3rd attempt.

In his 1st attempt he missed Prelims cut-off by 2 odd marks and in his 2nd attempt CSAT proved to be a hurdle.

This was his 1st Mains and he aced it with AIR-91.

In following post he has discussed his mistakes & learnings from the first two attempts and has mentioned his Prelims, Mains & Sociology optional (280 Marks) strategy.

I have analyzed the data of 200 Toppers’ marksheets and numbers are telling as far as GS-3 scores are concerned (200/933 Marksheets):

Average Score: 84.20
Highest Score: 107 Marks
Lowest Score: 63 Marks
Score between 101-110: 5 Toppers
Score between 91-100: 40 Toppers
Score between 81-90: 92 Toppers
Score between 71-80: 50 Toppers
Score between 61-70: 13 Toppers

Therefore, GS-3 turned out to be toughest to score in Mains 2022.

However, here we have the strategy followed by Nidhi Goyal, AIR-202 who scored 107 Marks in GS-3, perhaps the highest!
