I'm making a list of books to read after I turn 23. Do share if you know any good technical books to read (or any good book).

This year's top pick is The Book of Why, thanks to him. I'm halfway through it now.

remembering that i already have a book i've started, know the story of, and am halfway through makes me very happy

final update......from the previous post there were 3 challenges. I picked the second one which was related to implementing post quantum encryption algorithms to some blockchain projects.Yesterday I arrived at the codebase and Abrhot caffeinated but within…
I think UnitaryHack needs a proper closing, so here is the summary. The hackathon was open from June 3 – June 17. I worked and closed 3 issues across three projects.

* PyZX: I added documentation for three features: measurements, resets, and ancilla preparations.

* ZXlive: this was adding a new page in the doc that documents all the magic wand actions and drag-and-drop rewrites with GIFs for each one.

* TQEC: this was my prized work that led to multiple interactions with the maintainers and actually coding (stabilize gallery circuit generation).

So this should be it. I had a lot of fun this year, and compared to the last two years this is like a 300% increase (no contributions before). One thing I saw from this experience was that using AI agents was allowed, and most bounties had a pull request by the second day, but those who close are those who took the time, reviewed what they wrote, and actually introduced themselves and their work. I want to make open source saturday a thing so that I can be a good contributor to the tools I use.

Anyways, this was a 10/10 experience. If you're into qc, I highly recommend you join next year, or sooner if they run another one.

some context:

PyZX is an open-source Python library for working with ZX-diagrams and ZX-calculus, used for quantum circuit optimization and reasoning about quantum computations graphically.

ZXlive is a visual, interactive tool for exploring and rewriting ZX-diagrams, built on top of the ZX-calculus framework.

TQEC is an open-source project focused on topological quantum error correction, providing tools for designing and simulating fault-tolerant quantum circuits.

Year 22: book summary

Read: 34 books
Unfinished books: 20+
Nonfictions: 11 books
Fictions: 23 books

Book of the year: "I who have never known men" read it in august 1, 2025. I think about this book atleast once a month. I want to reread it this year as well.

I didn't have a goal for 22 but for 23 I have around 10 books that are a must and freestyle the rest. Generally I want being a reader to be part of my identity that's why I do this every year(plus I lowkey made a promise for my 18 years old self to read 500 books before 25)

this is by far my favorite newsletter for quantum software or the only one tbh and they made a really great site where we could find every issues so far
