The Morning After the Holiday (13/08/17e.c)

Nothing is ever spared — early in the morning I got up and headed to work, only to be met by a mountain of patient cards (Believe it or not, 68 patient cards were stacked right in front of me! I had no choice but to finish them!).

Even though I’ve been in this situation for a year now, today I felt extremely discouraged.

The highest number of patients I saw in one day was 50.

After dealing with all of this and more, I still couldn't afford to buy even one goat for my family! Let alone for myself! As a doctor, my gross salary is 10,600 birr.

Working for less than a daily laborer’s wage — who am I doing this for and why? That’s the question I keep asking myself. The patients have even stopped saying thank you, and the leaders... well, they’ve taken their hands out of their pockets and are now clapping — for themselves!

With a head full of knowledge, I now wonder if all the years I spent studying medicine were worth it… I’m barely able to afford two meals a day.

When you break it down, everything I do — all the people I treat — I get paid just 350 birr a day! How am I supposed to survive with that, even just for basic needs?! And they still expect me to proudly say, “As a healthcare professional, I must sacrifice myself to serve the community!”

I have a fair and just question: don’t I deserve a proper response from the concerned authority?

If not, Plan B is in my hands (I’ll share it after 22 days).

የድንገተኛ አና ፅኑ ሕሙማን ስፔሻሊስት ነኝ።

ብዙ አስቀያሚ ነገር አይቻለሁ። ሳያቸው የመኖር ተስፋን የሚያሳጥሩ ሕሙማንን አያለሁ። ED ስነልቦና የሚያደቅ ታካሚ ይመጣል። መታከም የሚችል ህመም ይዞ ብር የለኝም የመድሀኒት ይላል። አስቀምጨ Gasp ሲያደርግ አየዋለሁ። Monitor ላይ Asystole rythm አይቼ.....ልቤን አቁስየ እወጣለሁ። የየቀን ስራየ ነው። ED ሞት ማየት የየቀን ስራየ ነው። ደሞ አፅናናለሁ። ደሞ አንዳንዴ እደሰታለሁ። Respiratory failure...Near arrest የመጣ Asthmatic ይድናል። በዚህ የስሜት መዋዠቅ የሕይወቴ አካል የሆነው ትምህርቱን ስመርጥ ነው። አሁን ጠላቴንም ድንገተኛ ተማር ብየ አልመክረው።

እና ህዝቡ ግድ የሚሰጠው የለም። ለጤና ባለሙያው ራሱ ባለሙያው ነው ያለው።

በዕውቀቱ ስዩም የሰሞኑን አብዮት ቀድሞ ተንብዮታል።
"ሕይወት ለሚመልስ ሕይወት ላመለጠው
ለወጌሻው ግና ማንም ግድ አይሰጠው........
ከሕላዌ ደጃፍ ህፃን ተቀብላ
ዕትብት ለምትቆርጠው
ለዚያች አዋላጅ ሴት
ማንም ግድ አይሰጠው!" ይላል።

ወጌሻው የጤና ባለሙያው ነው። አዋላጇ ሴት የጤና ባለሙያው ነው። ለነዚህ ማንም ግድ አይሰጠው። እኛው ለኛ በኛ መታገል የመጨረሻው አማራጭ ነው።
