🥤 Making mulled wine

🍷 What, if not mulled wine, gives the holiday atmosphere a special charm? And no, I am not only talking about an alcoholic drink - there are non-alcoholic counterparts that are not far behind the original.

📕 Let's analyze the vocabulary that will be useful to you while making non-alcoholic mulled wine. First - the ingredients (Zutaten):

🍇 Trauben- oder Apfelsaft (1 Liter) - A liter of grape or apple juice. There are other analogues - for example, cherry juice (Kirschsaft)
🎍Zimt (1 Strange) - cinnamon stick
🫙 Gewürznelken (2) - two cloves
🍋 Zitronenscheiben (3) - three slices of lemon. Interestingly, the word "die Scheibe" has a wide range of meanings - from "disk" to "washer"
🍎 Apfel - apple
🍯 Etwas Honig/Zucker - some honey or sugar

🤔 How to cook mulled wine? Extremely simple.

▫️ Erwärmen Sie den Saft in einem großen Topf auf mittlerer Stufe - Heat the juice in a large saucepan over medium heat
▫️Fügen Sie während dem Erwärmen die restlichen Zutaten hinzu - While heating, add the rest of the ingredients
▫️Nehmen Sie dann den Topf vom Herd und lasse das Ganze mit allen Zutaten etwa eine Stunde ziehen - Then remove the pot from the stove and let it sit with all the ingredients for an hour.

🔺Your mulled wine is ready - Prost! I hope this recipe will add your Christmas mood 😄

PASSIV – The Most Understandable Cheat Sheet! 🗒

📌 The Passive Voice in German is used when the action or its result is important, rather than who performed the action. For example:

🔹 Mein Vater hat dieses Haus gebaut.
My father built this house.
(Emphasis on who did it.)

🔹 Dieses Haus wurde vor zweihundert Jahren gebaut.
This house was built two hundred years ago.
(The speaker isn't interested in who built the house, just the fact that it was built.)

📌 How is the Passive Formed?
The passive is formed using the auxiliary verb werden (to become) and the Partizip II (past participle) of the main verb.

Example Structure:
Subject + werden (conjugated) + Partizip II + (by agent, if needed)

📌 What You Need to Remember:

Conjugation of "werden" in the Present Tense:

ich werde
du wirst
er/sie/es wird
wir werden
ihr werdet
sie/Sie werden
Three Forms of "werden":

Infinitive: werden
Simple Past: wurde
Past Participle: geworden
📍 Passive in Different Tenses:

▫️ Präsens (Present):
Das Buch wird gelesen.
The book is being read.
(The present passive is often used to express ongoing actions or near future events. The future tense in passive form is less commonly used.)

▫️ Präteritum (Simple Past):
Das Buch wurde drei Tage lang gelesen.
The book was read for three days.
(Indicates that the action took place over a period in the past.)

▫️ Perfekt (Present Perfect):
Das Buch ist schon gelesen worden.
The book has already been read.

📍 Special Note on Perfekt in the Passive Voice:

In the Perfekt tense, werden is always used with sein as the auxiliary verb.
When forming the passive in Perfekt, the verb worden drops the ge- prefix. This is because most Partizip II forms already include the ge- prefix, and omitting it from worden helps keep the construction clear and less complicated.
Example:
Das Haus ist gebaut worden.
The house has been built.

🧐 Omitting the ge- in "worden" prevents the sentence from becoming too cumbersome.

👇 Impress native speakers with this cool German tip!

🚨 Want to sound more authentic? Use "gern" for preferences instead of just "ja"!

"Möchtest du Kaffee?" (Do you want coffee?)
"Ja." (Yes.) vs. "Ja, gern!" (Yes, gladly!)

👇 Mastering German Sentence Structure - Here’s How!

🚨 Sentence structure in German can be tricky. But, once you learn the rules, it all starts to make sense.

The Basics:
1. Main Clauses (Hauptsätze):
In a simple statement, the verb is usually the second element.
- Ich gehe nach Hause. (I’m going home.)

2. Questions (Fragen):
In yes/no questions, the verb comes first. In open questions, it follows the question word.
- Gehst du nach Hause? (Are you going home?)
- Wann gehst du nach Hause? (When are you going home?)

3. Subordinate Clauses (Nebensätze):
When using conjunctions like weil (because), dass (that), or ob (whether), the verb moves to the end.
- Ich bleibe, weil es regnet. (I’m staying because it’s raining.)

4. Time, Manner, Place (Zeit, Art und Weise, Ort):
In German, adverbials of time usually come first, followed by manner, then place.
- Ich gehe heute schnell nach Hause. (I’m going home quickly today.)

Common Mistakes and Tips:
- Watch for the verb placement:
Even if the sentence gets long, remember the verb’s position. For example:
- Ich denke, dass ich morgen mit dir in die Stadt gehen werde.
(I think that I will go to the city with you tomorrow.)

- Practice with short sentences first:
Make sure you’re comfortable with simple structures before adding more details.
- Ich esse heute Pizza. (I’m eating pizza today.)
Then add more:
- Ich esse heute Pizza mit meinen Freunden in einem neuen Restaurant.
