Five years ago, in January 2021, a simple but powerful idea turned into a life-changing journey for hundreds of young minds. What started as an initiative by Mr. #Andualem #Tsegaye has grown into a strong and inspiring kids’ coding training program at Dilla Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School.
Over the past five years, the training has been offered to students from Grade 6 to Grade 10, reaching more than 300 children through 8 successful rounds. These students were introduced to both the theory and practical skills of modern computing through courses in LOGO, Scratch, Python, AI Literacy, and Web Design.
The impact speaks for itself.
👉 Four students proudly won coding challenge competitions organized by Africa Code Week and Camara Education Ethiopia.
👉 Since 2024, students have also participated in the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders online training, earning nationally recognized certificates.
👉 Students have built and presented different creative projects, showing real problem-solving and innovation skills.
Each round ends with a joyful graduation ceremony, attended by parents, invited guests, and students. During these events, learners confidently present their projects and receive certificates, moments that make both parents and students proud. The happiness and encouragement from families have been one of the strongest motivations to keep this program growing.
Today, as we celebrate this 5th anniversary, we look back with gratitude and forward with hope. This journey would not have been possible without the support, trust, and participation of students, parents, school administration, partners, and well-wishers.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who has participated, supported, and believed in this training.
Together, we are shaping the next generation of problem solvers, creators, and innovators.

#Short_History_of_Don_Bosco
Don Bosco, or Saint John Bosco, was born in 1815 in Becchi, Italy. He faced poverty and hardship in his early life, but his determination to receive an education led him to the priesthood. Don Bosco was deeply concerned about the welfare of young people, especially those in need.
In 1859, he founded the Society of St. Francis de Sales, commonly known as the Salesians of Don Bosco, to focus on education and care for disadvantaged youth. The Salesian order grew rapidly, establishing schools, orphanages, and vocational training centers across the globe.
Don Bosco's educational philosophy emphasized a #preventive_system, combining #Reason, #Religion, and #Kindness to guide and support young people. He believed in fostering a loving and understanding environment to prevent issues before they arose.
Throughout his life, Don Bosco worked tirelessly to provide a holistic education, integrating faith and practical skills. His dedication to helping youth earned him the title "#Father_and_Teacher_of_Youth." Don Bosco passed away in 1888, but his legacy continues through the Salesian institutions that persist in their mission of education and support for young people worldwide.

Coding isn’t just about computers or becoming a programmer. It quietly strengthens the exact skills children need to succeed in their school syllabus.
🔹 Math becomes easier
Coding improves logical thinking, patterns, sequencing, and problem-solving—the same core skills used in algebra, geometry, and word problems.
🔹 Better performance in Science
Coding teaches kids how systems work, how to test ideas, and how to learn from mistakes. This directly supports physics experiments, biology processes, and scientific reasoning.
🔹 Stronger English & Writing skills
When children code, they learn to give clear instructions, structure ideas step by step, and explain their thinking—skills that improve writing, comprehension, and speaking.
🔹 Improved focus & exam discipline
Coding trains attention, patience, and error-checking. Kids learn to stay with a problem until it’s solved—exactly what exams demand.
🔹 Confidence across subjects
When students build something themselves—an animation, a game, a solution—they stop being afraid of “difficult” topics. That confidence carries into every class.
Coding doesn’t replace school learning.
It supports the syllabus by making kids think better, learn faster, and understand deeper.
