Albanese: “Uprooting Trees to Uproot the People”

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese says Israel has ordered Palestinian olive trees to be uprooted across the occupied West Bank, weeks before the olive harvest.

She said thousands of trees have been destroyed since October 2023, describing environmental destruction as part of the accelerated ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

Israeli occupation authorities have ordered the removal of wild vegetation and the uprooting of olive and fruit trees from approximately 29 dunams of land in Beit Ur al-Fauqa, west of Ramallah.
The collapse of Gaza’s economy is the world’s most severe economic crisis on record, according to UNCTAD.
Its latest report says 92% of economic establishments have been damaged or destroyed since October 2023. Unemployment reached 78%, and more than 90% of the working-age population was not employed.
Forty-one members of Congress signed a letter led by U.S. Representatives Mark Pocan and Mike Quigley calling on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to seek the release of Palestinian physicians and other healthcare workers arbitrarily detained by Israel without formal charges or due process.
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib criticized the University of Michigan’s treatment of students protesting against Israel’s genocide in Gaza, calling it “one of the most egregious infringements on academic freedom.”

Tlaib said threats to free speech are “not just coming from the White House” and expressed her support for the protesting students.
Israeli forces have issued orders to seize Palestinian land in Al-Funduq village, east of Qalqilya, citing the area’s alleged archaeological significance.
Amnesty International says Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, its system of apartheid against Palestinians, ethnic cleansing in Area C of the occupied West Bank, and its unlawful occupation of the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory must not fade from public attention.

The organization stressed that violations of Palestinians’ rights must end and called for Israel to be held accountable.
