The UK Foreign Office has raised the case of 22-year-old British activist Finn Joughin with Israel after his detention in the occupied West Bank.

Joughin was kidnapped Saturday in the Palestinian village of Umm Al Kheir after armed Israeli settlers reportedly kidnapped him and took him to a nearby outpost. His lawyer has denied the allegations against him, saying additional accusations were added after the initial assault allegation.

The UN expressed concern over the rising civilian deaths in Gaza amid continued Israeli airstrikes and military operations that have repeatedly violated the ceasefire.

“We continue to remain very concerned about the impact on civilians because of the continued Israeli airstrikes,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
