Norwegian national Morten Christensen received an invitation to a dinner with Donald Trump — an event exclusive to the largest holders of the TRUMP memecoin. Instead of the $50,000 investment typically required, he spent only $1,200.

Together with friends, Christensen made it into the top 220 holders guaranteed a spot at the event on May 22. A few days before the selection ended, they programmed a bot to track the rankings, purchased $250,000 worth of tokens, and simultaneously shorted the same amount to hedge against potential losses. After the competition concluded, they sold everything and closed their positions. The result: just $1,200 spent on fees and a seat at the table.

How One Startup Overbelieved in AI and Paid the Price

Klarna, the Swedish fintech company offering payment services for e-commerce, was one of the first to start implementing ChatGPT bots in its customer support back in 2023.

There’s no data on how many operators lost their jobs, but in 2024, the company claimed that AI was doing the work of 700 support staff. And this significantly cut costs. Since there’s no union for bots yet, the AI doesn’t demand adherence to a work schedule, doesn’t need bathroom breaks, and doesn’t ask for raises or overtime bonuses.

But now, Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski is calling former support operators back to work. What happened?

“This strategy no longer works for us,” Siemiatkowski stated, referring to the AI agents. “It seems we focused too much on cutting costs, and quality suffered as a result. For us, the path forward now is to genuinely invest in high-quality human support.”
