Something happened today.

I took a short nap for just 30min around noon and when I woke, the world felt... different.

Everything around me looked brighter, like that fresh clarity and vivid colours the world takes on after rain. But today, there had been no rain.

Colors felt alive, my senses were wide open, sounds came through gently and my thoughts? soft and warm, floated like cushions of light filled with love and affection.

I stepped outside as dusk began to settle. Even the tiniest grains of sand caught my eye.
The sun, hanging low, looked unlike any other day neither hot nor cold, just perfect. The sky stretched wide and soft, like a painting coming to life.

As I walked around, everyone seemed lovelier kinder, lighter, as if they too were touched by something unseen. Their presence warmed me even more.

The sky was absolutely catching, its colors, its calm, its quiet brilliance.
And in that moment, I was grateful.
Grateful to witness such beauty.
Grateful for the gift of today.
And I thanked the Lord with all my heart for opening my eyes.

I felt a wave of mixed emotions nostalgia from different moments of my life, some painful, some beautiful, all rushing in with every step I took.
Those memories didn’t feel so far away anymore; they walked beside me.
And yet, at the same time, I wished the moment I was in would last forever just to stay here, in this stillness, and let it all out.

Back in 12th grade chemistry, we were learning about polymers and one of those were sugars. Our teacher showed us how to make hard candy like Desta Keremela and gave us an assignment to make it ourselves. He even said if we failed, he'd cut points off ( a classic teshe move 😂)
So I went home and started experimenting.

Here’s what I did:

1. Mixed sugar and water in a pot

2. Heated it until the mixture thickened (super-saturated)

3. Added a bit of lime juice

4. Stirred constantly until it turned golden brown (without burning it)

5. Poured it into a mold to cool

here’s my side of the struggle:
It wasn’t easy. The hardest part? Finding a mold the sugar wouldn’t stick to.
I tried everything from oil, flour, random plastic containers, even an oven tray. Nothing worked. And yeah, we had a non-stick pan, but I didn’t dare use it, if it got ruined, my mom would’ve killed me.

So I gave up and just poured it onto a regular notebook paper.
Surprisingly… it worked. Not perfect, but better than the rest.

And the pictures at the top? Those are the candies I actually managed to make. Pretty cool right?
