داستان کشاورز چینی
🔹Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer, who lost a horse. Ran away!
روزی روزگاری یک کشاورز چینی، اسبش را گم کرد. در واقع اسبش فرار کرد.
And all the neighbours came around that evening. And said that's too bad.
و آن شب همه همسایه ها دور او جمع شدند. و گفتند خیلی بد شد.
And he said "maybe".
و او گفت: شاید.
🔹The next day the horse came back and brought seven wild horses with it.
روز بعد اسبش برگشت و هفت اسب وحشی را نیز با خود آورد.
And all neighbors came around and said "That's great, isn't it?"
و همه همسایه ها جمع شدند و گفتند: عالی شد، مگه نه؟
And he said "Maybe."
و او گفت: شاید.
🔹The next day his son who was attempting to tame one of these wild horses, and was riding it fell and broke his leg.
روز بعد پسرش که در تلاش بود که یکی از این اسب ها را رام و اهلی کند، از روی اسب افتاد و پایش شکست.
And all the neighbours came around that evening. And said "That's too bad, isn't it?"
و آن شب همه همسایه ها دور او جمع شدند. و گفتند: خیلی بد شد، مگه نه؟

روز بعد ماموران سربازگیری آمدند و به دنبال افرادی برای ارتش بودند.
And they rejected his son because he had a broken leg.
و آنها پسر او را نپذیرفتند چون پایش شکسته بود.
And all the neighbors came around that evening and said "Isn't that wonderful?" And he said "Maybe."
و آن شب تمام همسایه ها آمدند و گفتند: این عالی نیست؟
و او گفت: شاید!
🔹The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity.
طبیعت و فرآیندهای آن مملو از پیچیدگی های بسیاری است.
And it is really impossible to tell weather anything that happens in it is good or bad.
و واقعا غیر ممکنه که بگی که هر چیزی که در آن اتفاق می افته خوبه یا بد.
Because you never know what will be the consequences of a misfortune.
چون هرگز نمی تونی بفهمی که پیامدهای یک بداقبالی چی میتونه باشه.
Or you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.
یا هرگز نمی توان فهمید که پیامدهای یک خوش اقبالی چه خواهند بود.

مادر من فقط یک چشم داشت
My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.
مادرم فقط یک چشم داشت.ازش متنفر بودم... مایه آبروی من بود. برای دراوردن خرج ما، برای دانش آموزان و معلم ها غذا می پخت...
There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.
یه روز مادرم اومد مدرسه تا به من سلام کنه.
خیلی خجالت کشیدم.
How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, “EEEE, your mom only has one eye!”
چجوری تونست این کارو کنه؟ محلش ندادم و با نفرت بهش نگاه کردم و دویدم بیرون. همکلاس هام گفتند: اَه مادرت یه چشم داره!!
I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, “If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?”
اون لحظه می خواستم اب بشم برم تو زمین. فقط میخواستم بره. رفتم جلوش و گفتم: اگه تو باعث مسخره شدن منی پس بمیر!
My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings.
مادرم جوابی نداد... حتی برای یه لحظه هم به حرف هام فکر نکردم. پر از خشم بودم و اعتنایی به احساسش نکردم.
I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study.
می خواستم از خونه برم و کاری باهاش نداشته باشم. پس سخت درس خوندم و برای ادامه تحصیل رفتم خارج.
Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren.
ازدواج کردم. یه خونه برای خودم خریدم و بچه دار شدم. زندگی خوبی داشتم. تا یه روز مادرم به دیدنم اومد. چند سالی منو ندیده بود و حتی نوه هاشو نمی شناخت.
When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, “How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!”
وقتی کنار در ایستاده بود بچه هام بهش خندیدن و داد زدن سرش. منم سر مادرم داد زدم و گفتم: چرا بچه های منو می ترسونی! از اینجا بروو!
And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” – and she disappeared out of sight.
در این لحظه مادرم گفت: ببخشید، فکر کنم آدرس رو اشتباهی اومدم و رفت.
One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity.
یه روز یه نامه از طرف مدرسه برای دیدار شاگردان قدیمی برام ارسال شد. به همسرم دروغ گفتم که می خوام یه سفر کاری برم. بعد از دیدار همکلاسی هام از سر کنجکاوی به خونه قدیمیمون رفتم.
My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.
همسایه ها گفتن مادرت مُرده. من هیچ اشکی نریختم. بعدش یه نامه بهم دادن که از طرف مادرم بود.
“My dearest son,
فرزند عزیزم
I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children.
همیشه به فکرت بودم. ببخشید که اومدم به خونتون و بچه هات رو ترسوندم.
I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.
وقتی فهمیدم داری میای این شهر خیلی خوشحال شدم اما نتونستم بیام ببینمت. ببخشید که همیشه باعث مسخره شدنت شدم.
You see……..when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.
