Joshua Wong

'Brain Leung once said, it is pain that connects every people of Hong Kong.
Every time when I talk to victims of police brutality, I ask them to talk about how they are treated by the police. Their experience is what the general public found most terrifying, and those are the truest connections.
When the cops broke into his home, they handcuffed him, took him to the toilet, beating him with a waterpipe until it deformed, pressing his face into the toilet, pointing a gun at his head.
They asked whether he believes that he is going to be thrown off the building. He said yes, go on. They were shocked. Finally he stayed at the hospital for a whole day.
He is not scared. He did not surrender to the carrot and stick of the police. He said he will never betray anyone, because dignity is really important.
I asked how he managed to get over that. 'I expect that. Actually everyone is treated in this way, and I am not the worst case. We do not need to talk about it all the time. XXXX is even waterboarded.', he said.
My heart sinks everytime I hear something like this. It is hard to explain in words. If we meet face to face, I will definitely give him a big hug.
Indeed, it is pain that connects every people of Hong Kong. We have no other way out.'
Napo Wong, District Councilor, quoting the testimony of one of the million protesters
