The harsh reality of the UPSC journey is often hidden behind success stories.
One of my friends started preparing in 2019.
She gave her first attempt in 2020 but couldnβt clear prelims. In 2021, she finally cleared prelims and wrote mains, only to fall short.
Again in 2022, she reached the mains stage and again couldnβt make it to the list.
In 2023 and 2024, she couldnβt clear prelims.
In 2025, her seventh year of preparation, Last attempt, she cleared prelims again with hope in her eyes, but once more, mains slipped away from her hands.
Seven years of discipline, sacrifice, and relentless effort, yet no final result. Today, she is battling depression, anxiety, and the feeling that life is slipping away.
And this isnβt just her story, this is the silent truth of thousands of aspirants. UPSC is not just an exam; it is a test of mental strength, emotional endurance, and the ability to stand up after repeated failures. It demands everything, your time, relationships, health, and peace of mind. But life is bigger than any single exam. No result is worth losing yourself. UPSC can shape your future, but it should never be allowed to break your spirit. Every aspirant must understand that success does not lie only in clearing this exam; sometimes, success means having the courage to rebuild your life, rediscover your worth, and choose yourself over the pressure of a dream.

Mata ni pacchedi
Mata ni Pachhedi tells the journey of the nomadic Vaghari community, who painted their goddess on cloth
when they werenβt allowed into temples.
Each fold carries a prayer, each line a story of resilience.
The original creators of Mata ni Pacchedi were the Devi Pujak who lived along the edges of the Sabarmati River in Gujarat. Translating to βbehind the Mother Goddessβ, these textiles are sacred, wall art pieces used as a backdrop for shrines. The original style only involved using two colors - black and red, made out of natural dyes.
It got GI tag in April 2023.

Check up on your friends once in a while,
Especially when they're going through their rough phases.
There's this one practice I follow,
If you know that your friend have given this attempt/prelims/mains/interview and result came but their name didn't come up in the list,
I call them.
I might not be the first one to congratulate the one's who get IN,
but I try to talk or be there for those who couldn't.
You can try doing the similar, because no one forgets who were with them in their rough phases, who saw winner in them before the world saw.
.
Ultimately , being a gentleman has little to do with tying a tie or fumbling with the flatware.
Instead, it requires only a little logic, a bit of forethought, and a great deal of consideration for others.
