The problem with repeating and selling people on absolutist colloquialisms like “Covid-19 vaccines are *SAFE and EFFECTIVE*!” is that when reality contradicts these assurances, you begin to lose people. Even a slight concession of apprehension—admitting that we don’t have all the answers, admitting that we thought it ethical to give the placebo group the vaccine and as a consequence we won’t have long term data, and conceding that we aren’t sure, but that we are fairly certain, to the best of our ability, these vaccines are at least somewhat safe and somewhat effective—would go so much farther than parroting a phrase that’s been used to gaslight parents and children for decades. You won’t find lessons on integrity, honesty, or humility in a Med School textbook.

The whole “Here’s a really weak-sauce non-peer-reviewed study that proves my confirmation bias, as an intellectual MD Influencer™, that breastfeeding from vaccinated moms is super safe and you should DEFINITELY do it because, like obvi, kids are SUPER in danger of contracting Covid-19 and dying!” schtick is getting old. If only they weren’t so overly confident…
