British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace officially announced in the British Parliament the day before that the first systems had already been delivered to Ukraine on January 17.
British planes were forced to fly around the airspace of Germany, which had previously refused to supply weapons to Ukraine, but later denied information about the closure of the sky for the transport of weapons to Ukraine.
Its advantages:
1. NLAW is a short-range Javelin that hits the target with fire-and-forget technology. The operator looks into the Trijicon TA41 NLAW 2.5x20 computerized sight, marks the target, waits for the capture and presses the trigger, and the sight programs itself to calculate the lead, flight path, wind correction. The sight is optical, there is no laser rangefinder, and the grenade launcher's radiation detection system will not detect it.
2. Short reaction time. According to the data on the website of the Saab developer, from the moment you turn it on until the moment you capture the target and start, up to a maximum of 5 seconds is enough.
3. This is a grenade launcher for shooting from enclosed spaces, from behind shelters, from the upper floors of buildings or the basement. This is an important difference from conventional Soviet and Russian grenade launchers. The jet stream will not harm the operator, who will be able to choose reliable shelters in enclosed spaces, shoot even if the floor or ceiling are close, which is important for fighting in the city. Light weight - 12.5 kg - allows you to move quickly with it.
4. The maximum range of aimed fire is 600 meters for old modifications, 800 meters for new ones. The minimum launch range is 20 meters.
5. The grenade launcher has two firing modes. To destroy tanks, the attack mode from above is activated - the rocket will fly a meter above the aiming point, the charge will detonate to hit the tank from above. According to the manufacturer, the warhead will penetrate 500 mm of armor. And to defeat lightly armored targets or the walls of a building, the direct attack mode is activated. And then the warhead will detonate instantly upon contact.
However, the NLAW is not a consumable like the RPG-26 - it's a rather expensive melee weapon.
