Double bags of bleach, closed coffins, separate places in cemeteries - this is how not only people diagnosed with a new coronavirus infection are buried, but also those who, according to official documents, died from other diseases. These people don't fall into official Russian statistics of victims of COVID (whose figures raise more and more questions in the world)
According to official figures, Russia has one of the lowest mortality rates - the ratio is only 1.6 per 100 thousand people. In the US, this figure is 26.5, and in the UK - 53.3. Why is this so, the Ministry of Health explained, de facto admitting that in Russia they don't comply the WHO recommendations and do not include in the statistics of those who died from COVID but had other significant pathologies besides coronavirus. Information from funeral agencies was another evidence of this violation.
After publication of the New York Times and the Financial Times, the Moscow health department officially recognized that for more than 60% of the dead COVID-19 infected people in death certificates put other “alternative causes”, that's, they didn't appeared in official statistics.
Manipulation of causes of death in Russia has been going on for several years after the May 2012 decrees of Putin regarding the demographic situation, when Putin ordered an increase in demographics and decrease in mortality statistics from cardiovascular diseases. As a result, in the column "causes of death" instead of cardiovascular diseases, simply began to write "unknown causes". Then, by order of the Ministry of Health, instead of cardiovascular diseases, doctors began to write “diabetes” and “diseases of the nervous system” in mortality graph.
In 2018, even more ambitious goals were set, and death statistics were ordered to be halved.
Daria Khalturina, Chairman of the Board of the Public Health and Demography Council, says that Russian accounting for deaths due to coronavirus is different from the practice in other countries, which is why we see low numbers. Therefore, Russians don't believe that Covid-19 really serious problem - after all, they are told that mortality from coronavirus much lower than from influenza!
