CNN reports that since the start of the war, US gas prices have already risen 17%. The current national average is $3.478 (AAA, March 9). But this reflects oil at $93-100 — before the overnight surge to $120 hits the pumps. There's a 2-3 week lag. By end of March: $4.50-$5.00. California: $6+. And if Hormuz stays closed — $7-8 by summer.

Urea is the foundation of nitrogen fertilizers. Nitrogen fertilizers are the foundation of modern agriculture. Without them, crop yields drop by 40-50%. This isn't about energy prices or stock markets. This is about food.

$50 billion worth of nitrogen fertilizers have been exported from the Persian Gulf since 2020. The importing countries read like a map of global hunger vulnerability:
