⚡️🌍❌📡 Глобальный сбой Starlink
Вечером в среду 24 июля произошел глобальный сбой сети спутниковой широкополосной связи Starlink компании SpaceX. Пользователи на четырех континентах остались без доступа в Интернет 2,5 часа.
Сбой начался в 21:00 CEST (19:00 по Гринвичу — 3:15 PM ET или 12:15 PM PT) и продолжался до 23:30 CEST (6:23 PM ET).

⏺Проблема затронула пользователей по всему миру: Европа, США, Азия, Австралия — как частных, так и корпоративных, а также государственные структуры и военные соединения.

⏺ВСУ подтвердили отключение Starlink по ВСЕЙ линии фронта: терминалы были недоступны около 2,5 часов, что вызвало временную потерю управления дронами, видеотрансляций и командных коммуникаций. Это был самый продолжительный сбой за всё время войны Россий против Украины — Reuters

⏺Аналогичные проблемы испытали те, кто использует Starlink для авиации (в частности — на самолетах United Airlines), морских перевозок и в критически зависимых объектах инфраструктуры.

⏺Несмотря на резкое падение подключения до всего лишь 16% от обычного уровня трафика (по данным NetBlocks), на Downdetector было опубликовано более 60 000 сообщений о сбоях.

SpaceX и Илон Маск публично принесли извинения и сообщили о незамедлительном расследовании и работе над устранением причин сбоя.

«Сбой произошёл из-за сбоя ключевых внутренних программных служб, которые управляют базовой сетью», — сообщил вице-президент по инжинирингу Starlink Майкл Николс.


➡️ По данным внутренних источников, цитируемых на Reddit, сбой был вызван неудачным обновлением программного обеспечения, которое вывело из строя части спутниковой ячеистой сети, что привело к потере связи между спутниками и наземными станциями.

❗️Сбой произошел всего через несколько недель после того, как Starlink запустила свою услугу Direct-to-Device (D2D) на отдельных рынках, что вызвало вопросы относительно устойчивости сети по мере расширения ее глобального присутствия.

ℹ️ Перед сбоем Starlink T-Mobile представила спутниковый сервис T-Satellite, работающий на базе Starlink. On the evening of Wednesday, July 24, a global outage struck SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband network. Users across four continents lost Internet access for 2.5 hours.
The outage began at 21:00 CEST (19:00 GMT — 3:15 PM ET or 12:15 PM PT) and lasted until 23:30 CEST (6:23 PM ET).
Scope and Impact

⏺The issue affected users worldwide: Europe, the United States, Asia, and Australia — impacting private customers, businesses, government bodies, and military units alike.

⏺The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) confirmed a complete Starlink shutdown along the entire frontline: terminals were unavailable for around 2.5 hours, causing temporary loss of drone control, video feeds, and command communications. This was the longest outage since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — Reuters

⏺Similar problems were reported by those using Starlink for aviation (notably on United Airlines flights), maritime shipping, and other critical infrastructure.


⏺Connectivity data from NetBlocks showed a sharp drop to just 16% of normal traffic levels, with outage reports flooding social media and tracking platforms — more than 60,000 outage reports were logged on Downdetector.

SpaceX and Elon Musk publicly apologized and announced an immediate investigation and efforts to address the root cause.

“The outage was due to failure of key internal software services that operate the core network,” stated Michael Nichols, Starlink’s Vice President of Engineering.


➡️ According to internal sources cited on Reddit, the disruption was triggered by a failed software update that temporarily “soft-bricked” portions of the satellite mesh network, causing a loss of inter-satellite and ground-station communication.

❗️The outage comes just weeks after Starlink launched its Direct-to-Device (D2D) service in select markets, raising questions about the network’s resilience as its global footprint expands.

ℹ️ Shortly before the incident, Starlink’s partner T-Mobile unveiled the T-Satellite service, running on Starlink infrastructure. The service aims to provide connectivity between mobile phones in areas unreachable by traditional cell towers. It's unclear whether the Starlink outage affected T-Satellite operations, — CNBC.

☎️🇷🇺❌🌐 After the cyberattack on Aeroflot on July 28, the Russian authorities came up with a truly groundbreaking way to tackle vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure — by simply disconnecting from the Internet 🔥

Not only did the “Gosuslugi” government services crash right after Aeroflot’s IT systems went down, but for days now we’ve seen ongoing failures in mobile banking as well (see today’s screenshots from Downdetector, August 1).

🔴 State Duma deputies are urging Russians to withdraw cash while they still can and to just accept the internet shutdown as “a given”:
“Life is not limited by comfort,”
said State Duma deputy Vladimir Gutenev.
— “Limiting or cutting off the internet is a necessary measure, because there are critical infrastructure facilities whose disruption can have serious consequences.”
