🇫🇮🇺🇸🇩🇪 Baana 2024 (NATO exercise name “Imminent Field”) — the Finnish Air Force’s annual road base exercise. The air exercise, which takes place from 31 August to 6 September 2024, involves Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, Hawk jet trainers, as well as transport and liaison aircraft. In addition, there are Allied aircraft from the United States and Germany taking part in the exercise.

🇫🇮Keha 2024/2 — an exercise of the Finnish Defence Forces from 31 August to 6 September 2024, with the participation of the Police, Rescue Service and Coast Guard of the Gulf of Finland.

🇱🇻🇺🇸🇨🇦🇱🇹🇪🇪 Namejs 2024 — large-scale military exercises in Latvia, which will take place from September 3 to October 8, 2024. The maneuvers will involve 11 thousand NATO troops, including from the US, Canada, Lithuania and Estonia.

On August 22, 2024, it boasted that a new center for training specialists in communications and UAV control had been created on the basis of the local communications school.

Senior officer of the psychological support department of the military unit Artem Goncharenko spoke about this at a briefing in the official media center of Poltava region.

При чем здесь удар по Полтаве — и СССР

Удар был нанесен по военному объекту, использующемуся в военных целях с советских времен. Такие объекты (оставшиеся в Украине со времен СССР воинские части, военные учебные заведения, военные госпитали, склады, узлы связи и т.д.) есть на всех российских картах и с начала войны они являются потенциальными целями для ракет. Об этом прекрасно знают украинские военные, но очень часто продолжают использовать их по прямому назначению.

Иногда это вынужденная мера, как со многими больницами и госпиталями, которые невозможно перенести на безопасную территорию или надежно прикрыть ПВО. С двумя объектами в Полтаве вышла как раз такая история. И больница, и институт связи просто не могли быть никуда перемещены, на это нет ни средств, ни времени, ни системного решения со стороны политиков.

ПВО катастрофически не хватает, а эффективность ЗРК против российских баллистических ракет куда ниже, чем против крылатых.

К сожалению, в данном случае, виноваты даже не коллаборанты, мечтающие о "восстановлении СССР", а сами власти, не умеющие держать язык за зубами.

What does the strike on Poltava have to do with it — and the USSR

The strike was carried out on a military facility that has been used for military purposes since Soviet times. Such facilities (military units, military educational institutions, military hospitals, warehouses, communication centers, etc. that remained in Ukraine from the Soviet era) are on all Russian maps and since the beginning of the war they have been potential targets for missiles. The Ukrainian military is well aware of this, but very often continues to use them for their intended purpose.

Sometimes this is a forced measure, as with many hospitals and clinics that cannot be moved to a safe area or reliably covered by air defense. This is exactly what happened with two facilities in Poltava. Both the hospital and the communications institute simply could not be moved anywhere; there are no funds, no time, and no systemic solution from politicians.

Air defense is catastrophically lacking, and the effectiveness of air defense systems against Russian ballistic missiles is much lower than against cruise missiles.

Unfortunately, in this case, it's not even the collaborators are to blame, as sometimes happens, dreaming about “restoring the USSR” and helping the Russians to guide missiles to their targets, but the authorities themselves, cannot keep their mouths shut
