Paris prosecutor's office:

"Pavel Durov has been placed under judicial supervision, he is prohibited from leaving France and must post bail in the amount of 5 million euros

Durov must report to the police twice a week

Durov is accused of 6 offenses, including administering an online platform for the purpose of making illegal transactions"

Being placed under formal investigation in France does not imply guilt or necessarily lead to trial, but indicates that judges consider there is enough to the case to proceed with the probe. Investigations can last years before being sent to trial or shelved.

🔓Telegram isn't at all secure as developers claim
Experts have long known that most of the correspondence is stored on Telegram servers in unencrypted form, i.e. the decryption keys are stored in the Telegram infrastructure itself.
End-to-end encryption, the default for other messengers (WhatsApp, Signal, and even Viber), is used in Telegram only in "secret chats" that are accessible only from a phone in manual activation mode in individual correspondence. Moreover, if you change your phone, you will lose all correspondence in such 'secret chats' forever (which doesn't mean that the Telegram administration, hackers or Russian special services will not have access to it)
Telegram uses its own non-standard protocol MTProto for 'secret chats', which has also been found to have serious cryptographic vulnerabilities more than once.

Telegram doesn't have end-to-end encryption. Thanks to the SORM complex (System for Operative Investigative Activities), Russian intel agencies can monitor 96-97% of chats. Western intelligence agencies don't have this capability.
Since 2014, SORM has been implemented in absolutely all telecom operators in Russia, and total surveillance of users is used without any court order.

Telegram is presented by Durov as an encrypted messenger, while in reality only 4% of the so-called "secret" chats have been encrypted. All group and regular private chats are NOT secure by default, and CANNOT be secure due to the lack of end-to-end encryption.

Through the SORM system, the FSB has absolutely unlimited access to all communication networks and can read all your messages.

It doesn't matter whether Durov handed over the keys [to Russian intel] or not, because all messages in Telegram are not encrypted at all!

Perhaps Durov should have informed the public about this, but he didn't.

The special services of other countries don't have such access to Telegram. It turns out that Durov and Telegram help the special services of one specific country much more than other countries.
