These revelations were leaked by propagandist Simonyan: recognizing the eastern regions as belonging to Russia would supposedly allow Moscow to threaten NATO with retaliatory strikes for any Ukrainian counter-attacks.

“An immediate referendum – it’s a Crimea scenario, and it’s all-in,” Simonyan wrote, referring to the annexation of Crimea after an illegal referendum at gunpoint.

“A referendum today, tomorrow – recognition as part of the Russian Federation, the day after tomorrow – strikes on the territory of Russia will become a full-fledged war between Ukraine and NATO with Russia, loosing Russia’s hands in every way.”
