"Gerasimov received a shrapnel wound to the upper third of the right shin without a bone fracture. The fragment was removed, there is no danger to life," General SVR channel posted.

Gerasimov was evacuated from Izyum to Belgorod by helicopter, from there by plane to Moscow. 3 planes flew to Belgorod to evacuate Gerasimov and his retinue — 2 planes of the Min of Defense and one plane of the Min of Emergency Situations, which, among other things, took out the wounded.

He managed to return home after 3 weeks as part of a prisoner exchange. He returned without toes on legs. His friend, 28-year-old Sergei Vasiliga, was even less fortunate - he returned from captivity without legs at all.

Soldiers would tighten a wrench around the joint and turn it until the skin was torn.
Russians forced all the prisoners to take off their shoes, filled their boots with water and forced them to put them on again. Then the prisoners were laid face down in the field, in the cold.
"We lay like this for three or four nights, in the rain, it became colder and colder..."

At first, feet were very cold, but soon Nikita stopped feeling them at all...
A few days later, all the prisoners, still blindfolded, were lifted off the ground and pushed into trucks. During all this time they were given only one plate of porridge and a couple of crackers.

They were transferred from helicopters to a cargo plane, where there were 10-12 other prisoners.

In Russia, they were taken to the Kursk detention center, and only there they untied their eyes. Nikita was able to look at his legs for the first time in days. The fingers turned black... But instead of treating prisoners, Russians forced them to learn Russian anthem and patriotic songs praising Putin.

After three weeks in prison, the condition of Nikita's legs deteriorated so much that his toes began to simply fall off. The surgeon told him that all his fingers would have to be amputated.
