They checked the documents and if a person participated in the ATO (as the period of hostilities in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions from 2014 to 2018 is called in Ukraine) or was registered in the Territorial Defense, they were immediately shot. They also checked tattoos, they were looking for "Nazis". They nothing of the kind found, as a result, they shot even those who had the official coat of arms of Ukraine..

I myself was beaten twice, very severely, I even lost consciousness...
— An acquaintance of mine named Sergey Semyonov, he is about 40 years old, decided to go with a friend on foot through the glass factory to Irpen. Their bodies were found a few days later.
Sergey was shot in the back of the head, and the second was tortured - they cut out his cheek and shot him in the heart, then we buried them right on the territory of the plant.
— On March 2, when there were battles for the city, they killed five civilians just like that: three men, a woman and a pensioner. Their bodies lay on the bus for several weeks, we were not allowed to take them out.
