❗️NYT: The helicopter-borne commando assault resembled the raid in October 2019 that culminated in the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the previous leader of the ISIS.
An Iraqi intelligence official in contact with the U.S.-led coalition said Thursday’s target was a high-ranking militant leader. Information suggests he may be al-Baghdadi’s successor, the current IS leader known as Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, the official added.

❗️Interestingly, documents declassified at the end of 2020 reveal that new ISIS leader killed in today's anti-terror raid, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi had been cooperating with CIA and has betrayed dozens of fellow Daesh terrorists in Iraq.
▪️According to Iraq’s Al-Forat news, during an interrogation in 2008, al-Quraishi provided the Americans with confidential information about terrorist elements.
At that time, he was detained by US forces in Camp Bucca prison in southern Iraq where he met Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former ISIS leader.
Out of 66 reports of al-Quraishi’s interrogations conducted by the Pentagon, only three documents have been declassified.
So, to these documents, al-Quraishi had accepted to cooperate with the US intelligence service, giving the names of 88 fellow terrorists to the Americans.

Multiple outlets reported that al-Qurayshi had detonated a suicide vest during the raid, killing members of his family was well as himself.
At the site of the explosion, forged documents of the liquidated Abu Ibrahim Al-Kureisha were found and a visual identification of the remains was made.

Omar Saleh, a resident of a nearby house, said he was asleep when his doors and windows started to rattle to the sound of low-flying aircraft at 1.10 a.m. local time. He ran to open the windows with the lights off, and saw three helicopters. He then heard a man, speaking Arabic with an Iraqi or Saudi accent through a loudspeaker, urging women to surrender or leave the area.
“This went on for 45 minutes. There was no response. Then the machine gun fire erupted”.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strike killed 13 people, including 4 children and 3 women.
