One of the passengers, Subhonkul Rakhimov, who survived the plane crash, told Russian media that the pilots tried to land the plane three times in Grozny:

"The third time, something exploded. There was an explosion - I wouldn't say inside the plane. Where I was sitting, the skin of the plane flew off."

Rakhimov added that he reached for his life jacket, but there was a hole in it:

“I took the vest, looked: there was a hole in the vest - a piece of shrapnel had pierced it.”

According to him, panic set in after the explosion and the oxygen masks fell out

Источники в правительстве Азербайджана в четверг подтвердили Euronews, что российская ракета класса «земля-воздух» стала причиной крушения самолета «Азербайджанских авиалиний» в Актау

По данным бакинского издания Caliber, самолет был подбит над Грозным системой российских ПВО "Панцирь-С1".

Также источники сообщили, что самолету не разрешили приземлиться ни в одном из российских аэропортов, несмотря на просьбы пилотов об аварийной посадке (был запрос на посадку в Махачкале и Минеральных Водах)

Воздушному судну приказали лететь через Каспийское море в направлении Актау, а навигационные системы самолеты были заглушены системой РЭБ

«Можно предположить, что данная рекомендация была дана с одной целью: чтобы самолет упал в Каспийское море, все свидетели бы погибли, а самолет затонул. Однако это, отметим, наше предположение»,

— говорится в расследовании Caliber.

▪️Военный эксперт Ян Матвеев также заявил, что повреждения хвостовой части самолета свидетельствуют о поражении небольшой зенитной ракетой, характерной для системы "Панцирь-С1"

Azerbaijani government sources have exclusively confirmed to Euronews on Thursday that a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash in Aktau on Wednesday.

The missile was fired from a Pantsir-S air defence system, Baku-based international outlet Caliber.Az reported

According to the sources, the missile was fired at Flight J2-8243 during drone air activity above Grozny, and the shrapnel hit the passengers and cabin crew as it exploded next to the aircraft mid-flight.

The damaged aircraft was not allowed to land at any Russian airports despite the pilots’ requests for an emergency landing, and it was ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea towards Aktau in Kazakhstan.

According to data, the plane’s GPS navigation systems were jammed throughout the flight path above the sea.

"It can be assumed that this recommendation was given with one goal in mind: for the plane to fall into the Caspian Sea, all witnesses to die, and the plane to sink. However, we note that this is only our assumption,"

the Caliber investigation states.

▪️Military expert Yan Matveyev also stated that the damage to the tail section of the aircraft indicates that it was hit by a small anti-aircraft missile, typical of the Pantsir-S1 system.
