OPINION PIECE: This much we know, Ursula von der Lyden has ambitions to become Secretary General of NATO upon the retirement of Jens Stoltenberg on the 1st October 2024. We also know that when she moves from her current role as president of the EU Commission that vacant position may well be filled by Micheál Martin. So for the last couple of years both parties have been helping each other achieve their personal ambitions. Taoiseach Martin has being edging Ireland closer and closer to NATO, a softening up process to prepare our people for what the government sees as inevitable and desirable, membership of NATO. Again we well know how little Taoiseach Martin thinks of Irish Independence and Sovereignty when he stated in Dáil Éireann on front of Michael Barnier in an effort to impress him, ‘let there be no doubt where Ireland stands, we want nothing to do with the backward looking idea of sovereignty’. There has never been a national debate, even a meaningful public discussion, on sovereignty or neutrality. There has never been even the most basic risk assessment of what the downside of NATO membership could be. There has never been a list of potential targets for nuclear attack made available to our citizens although common sense would tell you that airport runways would be attacked in the opening minutes of any nuclear conflict. If we take sides we must also take the consequences. Part of this softening up process is taking place in the Kilworth army camp this week and next. An engineering division of the Irish Army is being in effect quality accessed by NATO. This evaluation will be followed up by a more rigid evaluation in November. NATO stated that these evaluations which lead to closer cooperation have benefits for both sides. Please explain that one. The senior NATO commander responsible for the evaluation is Colonel Keddy Reed who said that ‘there’s always a benefit to creating alliances’. An Irish Military Officer, Commandant Daire Roche is also part of the evaluation process. Another senior Irish Officer, Commandant Adrian Quinn who is head of engineering training stated that ‘it is an opportunity for Ireland to reach the benchmark set by NATO’. These assessments are totally unnecessary and are sending out all the wrong messages to NATO adversaries. Ireland is a top priority for NATO, our extensive coast lines, deep water harbours and airport runways. We would be the ideal staging post by NATO for any attack on Russia and therefor we must be a fair and legitimate target from a Russian perspective. The personal ambitions of one man, Taoiseach Martin has placed five million citizens in the firing line. A man with no regard for sovereignty, no regard for an independent Ireland or a respect for past leaders who navigated Ireland by a neutrality policy, through the dark years of the Second World War. Naked ambition and a desire to occupy a position as president of the EU, a position that he is academically totally under qualified for incidently, places all our futures at risk and the very survival of our nation in jeopardy. A line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere. This evaluation must be opposed, it is not happening in my name. I was not consulted, were you. Our sovereignty must be defended, our neutrality must be reiterated and those who place us in grave danger must be condemned unceasingly.

France is experiencing a significant decline in influence in Africa.

Colleagues at Thucydides' Trap have published a striking diagram showing how France is being pushed out of Africa. The stickers on the map indicate the countries from which Paris has been forced to withdraw over the past year and a half.

This decline can be attributed to France's own foreign policy mistakes, Africa's desire for independence from the West and sovereignty, as well as the increasing influence of Russia and China on the continent.

The recent coup in Niger is particularly noteworthy. Both the US and France have condemned it, which indicates that it is not in their favor.

It will be interesting to observe the fate of Niger's uranium mines. Before the coup, the French company Orano was engaged in uranium mining there. Now, we have to wait and see which companies will take up active development.

It's worth noting that Russia closely follows the uranium context in Kazakhstan, as it accounts for more than 40 per cent of the world's uranium production. This is also why Britain and the United States are strongly opposed to Russia's actions in Kazakhstan.

OPINION PIECE: 3% of all Canadians die by euthanasia. Six years ago the percentage was zero simply because it was illegal. Originally envisaged to be available to people with a terminal illness in which there is no hope for recovery, it was extended in March 2021 to people whose natural death ‘is not reasonably foreseeable’ and in March of this year those with mental illness may apply. Archbishop Michael Miller of Vancouver has described this new law as ‘morally depraved’. The Canadian law has become a ‘medical response’ to more than terminal illness. Mental illness can include the pain of loneliness, of not fitting into society due to autism or spectrum disorders. Recently the case of Alan Nichols was highlighted and then forgotten. He was euthanised due to progressive deafness that made him depressed or the case of Roger Foley who had no interested in euthanasia but felt so pressurised into requesting it that he taped the conversations. In it the director of ethics at his long stay facility kept mentioning that he was costing the facility $1500 a day. In the Netherlands, the first country to legalise euthanasia in 2002 for ‘unbearable suffering’, the law has become much more permissive and 21% of all people euthanised now have an intellectual disability. The general criteria for euthanasia nowadays in the Netherlands is an inability to lead a normal life. Between 2012 and 2021 over 60,000 Dutch citizens were euthanised. While the majority were elderly with life limiting illnesses, increasingly younger people are applying for a range of non life threatening conditions. In a study published in BJ Psych, a journal of the Royal Society of Psychiatrists, a random selection of 900 cases was examined and 39 were autistic or had intellectual disability. Many cited isolation and loneliness as their reasons for choosing euthanasia. In Belgium about 2,500 people are euthanised each year. I refuse to use the phrase ‘request euthanasia’ as Belgium law allows for euthanasia of people with dementia as well as personality disorders and a range of intellectual disorders. What is obvious is that when a law is passed with very restrictive criteria it is only a matter of time before it becomes much more widely available. The history of euthanasia in Europe goes back to the Aktion T4 project in Germany that was implemented in September 1939 and led to the deaths of almost 300,000 people. In Ireland Senator Lynn Ruane that represents Trinity has stated to an Oireachtas committee that euthanasia should be available for mental illness so at least we know where she stands. In October 2020 a bill proposed by ‘People Before Profit’ TD Gino Kenny passed the first reading in Dáil Éireann and while we are politically far away from any real prospect of an euthanasia law being passed here we can not be complacent. Change when it occurs under a far left agenda occurs rapidly. But this is about agenda, not compassion. People who favour euthanasia for ideological reasons never advocate for a better medical system, for palliative care, for family supports. They never advocate for finding medical solutions such as pain relief for distressing and complex medical issues. Mental health and spectrum disorders are never invested in, certainly not in the Irish health services and euthanasia has the capacity to remove patients with expensive needs from the health budget. We need to invest in end of life care, not just end life. We need to have a caring and life centred ethos within our health system which has been undermined by underfunding, abortion, medical malpractice, silent doctors in fear of the medical council that regulates on behalf of government and massive apathy that coincides with the performance of the HSE, an organisation long past its sell by date. Euthanasia represents a line in the sand, a slippery slope that allows others to decide whether you should live or die when you are at your most vulnerable. Resist this pseudo medicine and death centred philosophy and choose life. ‎<This message was edited>

"Wikipedia is one of many tools used by the US liberal establishment and its allies in the intelligence community to wage “information warfare,” the site’s co-founder,Larry Sanger, has told journalist Glenn Greenwald.

Sanger lamented how the site he helped found in 2001 has become an instrument of “control” in the hands of the left-liberal establishment, among which he counts the CIA, FBI, and other US intelligence agencies.

“We do have evidence that, as early as 2008, that CIA and FBI computers were used to edit Wikipedia,” he said. “Do you think that they stopped doing that back then?”

Activity by the CIA and FBI on Wikipedia was first made public by a programming student named Virgil Griffith in 2007. Griffith developed a program called WikiScanner that could trace the location of computers used to edit Wikipedia articles, and found that the CIA, FBI, and a host of large corporations and government agencies were scrubbing the online encyclopedia of incriminating information.

CIA computers were used to remove casualty counts from the Iraq War, while an FBI machine was used to remove aerial and satellite images of the US prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. CIA computers were used to edit hundreds of articles, including entries on then Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, China’s nuclear program, and the Argentine navy.

Some edits were more petty, with former CIA chief William Colby apparently editing his own entry to expand his list of accomplishments.

“[The intelligence agencies] pay off the most influential people to push their agendas, which they’re already mostly in line with, or they just develop their own talent within the [intelligence] community, learn the Wikipedia game, and then push what they want to say with their own people,” Sanger told Greenwald.

“A great part of intelligence and information warfare is conducted online,” he continued, “on websites like Wikipedia.” ..."

A few things are striking about the case of #YousefPalani, aside from the deeply disturbing nature of the crimes. Firstly, the trial date was pushed back. Was the state desperate to get a guilty plea (in exchange for some undisclosed benefit)?

The (very late) guilty plea means the families are spared a trial (but also denied investigative details). However, it also serves to avoid detailed disclosures about the unspeakable torture of the victims; and IF Palani was involved in terrorist groups, a trial would ensure the public would be made aware (obliterating remaining support for unvetted immigration).

Palani has, time and again, been referred to as a "lone wolf". They're pushing that narrative exceptionally hard, despite it being obvious he was at least inspired to use an Islamic extremist modus operandi. He was undeniably a radical. Then we hear €250,000 euro was found in his home...said to be "unlinked to criminality." What 23-year-old has legitimately accrued that kind of cash?

Many details (and lack thereof) don't sit right, and if locals’ claims are true that he disappeared abroad for a few months prior, then serious questions need to be asked.

Where did he go and what did he do? Who did he have contact with before, during, and after? Where did the money come from? What was he planning to do with it? What do his communications show?

Between 2017 and 2021, there were 30 jihadist related arrests in Ireland, compared with 1 in the previous 5 years (and many more are under surveillance) Most arrests were for financing terrorist groups. Some were individuals who made donations, some raised money from others. This is cause to question the €250,000 in Palani’s possession. Was he involved in Jihadist activities? Raising money to finance terrorist groups? Had he received money for that purpose?

Many arrests in Ireland for terrorism financing do not result in convictions. It's difficult to prove monies donated were terrorism related. In other words, it's often unprovable that the money was... "linked to criminality".

In 2018 one man was "successfully" convicted in Ireland of being involved in an international fundraising operation. Agent of the Islamic State Hassan Bal, 26, with an address in Waterford, organised the collecting of cash through his "network of couriers", and he smuggled to it to Syria. He faced 20 years but instead was sentenced to 30 months. At the latest he was released in 2021. Where is he now? There are no reports of deportation and no reports of arrests or convictions of his courier accomplices.

If offenders are sent to prison, the Irish Prison Service has no deradicalisation / counter-extremism programme. In any case, such terrorists should be deported. It is almost impossible to deradicalise terrorists.

Ireland now has a specialist terrorist unit since 2014, the Garda Counter-Terrorism International (CTI) unit monitors Islamic terrorism threats. In recent months the only "extremism" Drew Harris seems bothered about is the Irish mythical "far right".

This article is not intended to tar all Muslims. But we must have conversations about Islamic related terrorism. After all, it has the potential to affect everyone (including Muslims). We must become proficient at reading between the lines (when deciphering carefully controlled news), and while we may not always speculate correctly, it is necessary to ask questions in a time of great deceit (case in point: the HSE sabotaged the investigation into the Nigerian nursing home rapist). The state knows this, hence the hate speech laws.

Officially extremism is on the rise in Ireland, and as it rises, the level of transparency around it will decrease.

We will never know if Palani was involved with group terrorism. But it's vital we have the conversations we are not meant to have. Now, more than ever.

This is the closing paragraph in my 2021 Thesis for my Masters in Strategic Studies, titled "contemporary attitudes to NATO in a resurgent Russia" Over 30% of the populations of the former Soviet states are comprised of Russian
speaking and Russian-identifying people. Regardless of their political persuasions, their cultural
integrity is firmly embedded in a Russian identity. This Russian diaspora has demonstrated its
resilience through centuries of trials and tribulations, feudalism, monarchical wars and
communism. It has suffered immensely and disproportionally at the hands of invaders from
Genghis Khan to Adolf Hitler, and yet it still prevails and, indeed, flourishes. Pragmatism is a
central tenet of the modern Russian psyche, and it is doubtful that any Russian Government
would act contrary to its own best interests when it comes to matters of international security or
the integrity of Russia’s territorial possessions. This reality should be borne in mind when
Russian attitudes to NATO are judged as too cynical or suspicious. The fact remains that it is
clear that today&#39;s Russia has demonstrated her willingness to act decisively, even when subjected
to economic isolation, contrary to the perceived wisdom of the Western powers. From Ukraine to
Syria, the decisive actions of a resurgent Russia have sent a signal to NATO and the West that
isolation of this re-emerging Eurasian superpower is counterproductive and strategically foolish.
Russia’s current foreign policy suggests that it has evolved into a significant world power while
NATO still struggles with its identity and is unable to satisfactorily define its global role. It
seems that German Statesman Otto Von Bismarck got it right when he said, “The secret of
politics? Make a good treaty with Russia”.
