Sengol
- Derived from the Tamil word 'Semmai' meaning righteousness
- Description: 5 foot long, silver made gold plated
- Considered sacred symbol of authority during Chola period
- Commissioned from Thiruvavaduthura math, Mayiladuthurai district of TN
- Nandi on top symbolizes justice and strength, Sengol has carvings in Tamil language
- Handed over to PM Nehru on night of Aug 14 1947 marking independence
- It was efforts of C. Rajagopalachari that Sengol found prominence at important date
Note: Song of Tirugnana Sambandar, a 7th century Nayanar saint from TN, was rendered during event of Sengol transfer to Pt. Nehru.
Narco Test
- Sodium Pentothal (or Thiopental) injected in body which is fast acting, short duration, anaesthetic
- aka Truth Serum and acts on the central nervous system as depressant
- Used in Gujarat riot case 2002, Nithari killings 2007, 26/11 Kasab
- In Selvi v/s Karnataka 2010 SC rules on legality and admissibility of narco tests
Polygraph Test
- Works on assumption: Physiological responses are diff when one is lying and when one is not
- No drugs injected but cardio-cuffs, sensitive electrodes attached to measure BP, Pulse, sweat gland, etc.
