- Naming a trans, non-binary, gender-expansive person with their old name before they adopted more self-affirming name
- Harmful for it refuses to acknowledge a person by their chosen name/pronouns (transphobia)
- Invalidates one's identity, might reveal personal information which person may not desire to be shared
