Why PYQs are important?

See this 2022 Pre question.
Which of these cause Acid rain?

If you are not from science background, very tough to answer this (science waalo ko bhi nahi pata hoga 😂)

But if you had done PYQs, in 2010, it was asked as “oxides of which of these cause acid rain?”

Start analysing every Q of PYQs and make a google doc note. On the right is my PYQ doc.

Solved the question in less than 5 seconds in real exam. Saved so much time and gained confidence! 🤭☺️

Acha laga aur baat samajh me aayi toh react karo! 🥰

UPSC is trending on Twitter in India and most of my tweets are in that list! 🥲🥲🥲

If you are on Twitter, check trends and find my tweets. Reply to your favourite tweet from that trend? :D

See how beautifully a Timeline is shown in today’s Indian Express.

You can use similar style in your answers to show timeline in:

- modern history/polity: all the major acts starting from 1773 till Independence Act 1947
- Foreign relations with some prominent country, say the USA.
- Some govt efforts from independence till today (women rights, vulnerable sections, poverty/hunger)
- evolution of constitution:
- Basic Structure Design/ FRights amendability
(from shankari Prasad 1951 to Minerva Mills 1980, all cases)
- Major amendment acts
- Historical underpinnings
- Can even write names of countries from which certain provisions are borrowed in constitution

(all these topics can be fit in this Timeline type with year design for better visual appeal in your answers)

gist maine samjha diya, aur topics me khud dimaag laga lena. Gist samajh me aagya Toh react kar do message par! :)

There’s an editorial in The Hindu (page 6) today titled “Indian Vietnam ties, from strong to stronger”

Read it from 2 perspectives:
- why maritime interests of India are seeing a new effort on diff fronts.
- synergies with Vietnam.

Try to relate the first perspective with other efforts like
- Colombo Security Conclave
- SAGAR
- Net Security Provider
- SLOCs

You’ll get a great set of comprehensive notes for GS2 International Relations, GS1 security, and GS3 trade & infra 🥰

How smart elimination saves life in exam?
Q from Haryana PSC 2021:
"Who were hanged in Kakori conspiracy case?"

Q not about Kakori but on life of Azad or Bhagat. If you eliminate iv) & vi) from options, answer is in front of you!

Lesson: every question can be answered if you’re sitting in mind with ample sleep, great confidence and fair practice.

Move fast and broaden your thought process. :)

Seeing an increasing trend of aspirants watching Current Affairs videos bypassing newspaper because latter is “tedious and takes a lot of time”

And then come with Q:
Shall I read newspaper or watch coaching video/PDF?

First, don’t be this person.
Second, Goal is to crack UPSC. It doesn’t care what did you read or where!

It’s better if you read paper 📰 mapped with syllabus and make your own notes (handwritten or digital, your choice)

Other benefit of reading newspaper is:
- keywords
- teaches you flow of answer writing
- You can pick data which coaching videos miss
- Most importantly, time! Videos are at times hour long or more. You can get it done in 40 minutes with focus.

Small note: see Antarctic Bill.

You might find long articles or news clips but only relevant points for answer writing/prelims are the features and objectives. You can do value addition with names of Indian stations in Antarctica.

This is why befriending syllabus is important!!
