Board- Shri. Sanjay Verma Sir (Round table discussion)
Time duration- around 30 minutes
Relevant DAF Keywords - Civil Engineering, TV Advertisements, Sociology, Recent trends in science and tech, President CESA.
Chairman Sir-
First greeted me and then asked to sit. It was round table wherein Chairman sir and I were sitting exactly opposite and in between us 2 members each on my right and left side.
1. So you have a interest in analysing TV advertisements, which is quite interesting hobby. Tell me the famous names of copyrighters in TV advertisements. (No idea, so said I am Sorry sir). Sir himself told 2-3 names.
2. lets say if you are head of marketing company of your firm, and you want to give ad of your product in between TV shows. Then which three TV shows you would like to choose to give your advertisements ? ( I said, Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chasma, Big Boss And Sports channel especially cricket)
3. On which channel all these shows get telecasted ? And how much viewership you get on TMKOC and Big boss ? ( I was completely clueless here, thus Humbly said, sorry sir I have no idea about the exact viewership).
4.Then sir asked, don't you think cricket has much higher viewership compared to other two ? I agreed, but also tried to highlight the seasonal and annual nature of these shows.
5. Tell me the changes which have occurred in advertisements especially on parameters like Gender, Family, Agency of the individual and urban phenomena. (I took a moment and answered it in crisp manner).
Member1 (Ma'am) -
1.As you are sociology student, what is McClelland's self-actualization theory ? (I heard it for the first time, so I said Sorry ma'am, I don't know about it).
2. How is our economy is performing ?
3. What is the government target towards GDP and by which year ?
4. Do you really think we will be able to achieve 5 trillion dollar economy by 2030 ?
5. Okay lets talk on agriculture. What is the biggest issue faced by Indian agriculture barring uncontrollable events like climate change and erratic rainfall ? (herein I said first being disguised unemployment and second being the overall negative perception towards agriculture as a profession which is nowadays generally looked down upon)
6. ma'am said its a psychological reason and not sociological. Then I humbly said, Yes ma'am it is true, because in sociology we also study it's interlinkage with psychology like GH Mead's Mind, self and society theory.
7. Okay tell me one common thing that mob posses, while dealing with incidents like mob lynching ?
8. What are the specific steps taken by govt in recent FY26 budget regarding agriculture ?
9. Tell me the ongoing national and international events having impact on you as a citizen of India.
Member2- (A bit philosophical questions + Technical)
1. Continuing with the advertisements thread, tell me is there any difference between our general communication and the way TV advertisements use communication as a tool ? Especially do they follow any ethical responsibility ?
2. Then does it mean that all the TV advertisements meant merely for profit ? (I said, sir it would be wrong to club everything under one single bracket. Advertisements is a medium of communication which can be used in positive manner as well. For example- RBI's Jago Grahak Jago, Polio vaccination campaign etc.)
3. Okay can you tell me how many dimensions there could be to see towards things surrounding us ? (I said sir its quite subjective. We can't quantify them in a particular number. It also depends on how we are socialised and how we perceive the things).
4. Okay, then tell me as a civil engineer how many dimension could you think of while constructing ? (May be he was thinking of 3 dimension, but I said 4 including time as well. He seemed satisfied)
5. A long monologue on achieving cost effectiveness, quality and durability at the same time. So tell me is there any new technology or method by which we can achieve all these objectives simultaneously ? (I said yes sir, as of now I can think of one such technology i.e. MIVAN technology)

(2/3)
6. What is this MIVAN technology and how does it helps in achieving the said objectives ?
7. My last question, as I am wearing white shirt and you wearing a light blue, does it mean in any way white colour is superior than yours ? ( I took a firm stand here. Sir I feel it is completely wrong to attach any sorts of beliefs and prejudices with any one specific colours, It must be an individual choice to choose which one She/he wants.)
Member3- (Ma'am was quite soft spoken and an active listener)
(Just continuing with the last member question, ma'am just smiled and said, sir did not mean to attach any values with colour of the shirt and just meant white looks better than blue one. I smiled and agreed with ma'am. )
1. Can you tell me any popular example of community driven social healthcare model ? ( I said, I would like to talk about Hemalkasa model being run by Shri. Prakash Baba Amte and Smt. Mandakini Amte)

4. What is this concept of glass ceiling and in which context it is used ?
5. Let me give you an hypothetical situation. You are a DM of you district and government has allotted a fund to your district to boost the industrial production. Now you are planning to constitute 3 awards to boost the morale and spirit of the industries. Then which 3 most important categories/themes that you would like choose to give those awards ? ( I asked for a moment to think upon and answered satisfactorily)

( I said, yes sir the adoption scale is still in its nascent stage, but we are using it in metro cities like Bangalore and Delhi).
4. What are the new trends in transportation engineering like highways ? Why roads play important role in the development ?
5. Tell me the name of any 3 great civil engineers that you think have contributed immensely in this field ? (Here along with Shri. M. Visveswarayya and Shri. E. Sreedharan, I mentioned Laurie Baker who is also known as Gandhi of Indian Architect for his low cost housing projects in Kerala)
6. As we know today there is so much hype around low cost housing. But don't you think there is this co-relation between low cost housing and poor quality ? (I said, to some extent its true, but that doesn't mean we should equate both. Low cost is not just due to money, but it also factors in our innovation, research and developments. For example ISRO launches space missions at a much cheaper costs as compared to NASA, that in any way does not mean our products are of cheap quality. And with the coming up of new technologies in civil engineering like Robotics, MIVAN technology, Pre-stressed concrete etc. it has brought economy in construction without compromising upon quality aspect)
7. Since you have graduated in 2020. What are you doing since then ? Haven't joined any job ?

Sir asked me to take a moment to think upon and answer carefully. I took a moment and Said, Sir if I were to be given a chance I would like to get myself featured in AMUL ad over getting that award.
6. What is this MIVAN technology and how does it helps in achieving the said objectives ?

3. Sir asked, Why so ? Is it just because of national recognition over regional appreciation ? I said, It is not because of national recognition per se, but the work ethics that AMUL stands for and the celebration of Unity in diversity in India through its advertisements made me to chose it.
Sir laughed and said, okay Your interview is over. You can leave now. I smiled back, said Thank you to all of them and left the room with a sense of relief.
