Name- -Raymond Redington
Board-- Suman Sharma mam
Date- 21 January 2025- afternoon
Keywords- B. E- ECE, history optionals, IPS first preference, fitness instructor as profession

My observations

1. No qustions from optionals.
2. Board wants an organic interaction and they try to ask questions for which we dont have a pre designed answer.
3. I personally feel that going straight to interview, without mocks helped me being organic. ( Disclaimer-- Im a bit good in english and thus didnt need practice for speaking... Completely personal opinion)
4. Be yourself.. Just try to have a conversation.

Chairperson-

Straight jump into questioning- more focussed on my BE-ECE graduation despite knowing about my 2nd class degree.
1.) Why Tamilnadu despite having long coastline, has no beaches like goa?
2.) Whats the difference between type 1 and type 2 semiconductor?
3.) Why indian IT sector is more focussed on support and less oriented towards coding and development?
4.) Whats the largest chip making company?
5.) How do you perceive EGO.. ?
6.) What has the government done so far to improve semicon manufacturing?
Answer-- Went with 75,000 crore National semicon mission and PLI scheme
7.) Why did the mission not go as planned?
Answer-- wonderfully answered this part with all technicalities and foxcon- vedanta issue..
Mam was satisfied and also provided additional inputs.

Member1
1.) Again in electronics and communication.
2.) Difference between ios and Android.
3.) Whats GPU?
4.) Why python language is preferred in software industry?
Finally i frankly spoke about my lack of experience in B. E-ECE, as Iam working in fitness industry for nearly 7 years, with a smile in a humble tone.
Board then shifted away from electronics.
But except 1 question, answered all questions decently.. Now into general topics
Member 1
1.) How can we skill our people?
2.) Long monologues about
our workforce quality and asked measures for it.
3.) What is the way forward in health education?
Answered -- we have warnings for alcohol and tobacco but not for sugar. Sugar is 300 times more addictive than cocaine and its also available to children.. School should be the functional unit for health education was my point

Member 2
( most cordial and seated close to me) - started questions from my expertise
1.) What does a fitness instructor and trainer actually mean?...

2.) How do you gauge the fitness level of a person
Answer- -- most engaging answer by me based on BMI, VO2 MAX, etc...
3.) Why qatar is the mediator for most negotiations?

Answer-- also my best answer.. Was a great conversation in this topic.
Sir seemed pretty much satisfied and passed over

Member3( lady member)
Mam was very stern looking at begining.. She didnt even laugh.. But after she started questioning, she was the most jovial... Had a very engaging and entertaining conversation ..
1.) Tell me the dance forms of India.
- I asked whether she referred to classical dances and she said yes. .. Continued with the 8 classical dances of india...
2.) Then asked me to name famous personalities from each dance..
-- Went with vishwaroopam film reference and named birju maharaj...Said that Birju maharaj was the G. O. A. T because he taught kamal sir kathak in just 5 days and made him give a master performance.... Mam was very engaging..
3. Why dont you teach yoga as a fitness instructor?
Answer-- said i learnt basic yoga at school.. But not a certified yoga trainer. So I prefer resistance training, as I have working experience in it.

Member 4( very strict member)
1.Talked about corruption in police department... Whenever i was about to answer, Sir would interrupt me and give counterarguments.....
2.) Sir would never accept my arguments that said corruption in police is very less compared to other departments and now after technology enabled policing, it has reduced even further.
👍213
Talked about delhi police prepaid taxi service in airport.
Only after that sir was like ok. Was very smooth according to me. Dont know how much time it took.. It was very engaging.
Did not attend a single mock interview as I did not have much time.
Focussed on just being myself and had a humble, honest, transparent way of interacting.

Medical board instruction

1.) Please check your ear and have your wax removed.. Otherwise you must reappear after 7 days like me... Its disastrous for candidates from south india , to travel back

2.) Better avoid eating dinner after interview... I had a late night snack and it spiked by glucose levels in the morning test... Luckily they rely on HbA1c and thus I was saved.

Chairman-
As I entered the room all the board members were talking to each other. I greeted them and waited for a minute but they did not respond and were busy talking among themselves. After a minute the chairman greeted me and asked me to sit down.

Then sir asked,
- What is the significance of your name. (My name is related to one of the ancient ruler.)
- Arctic becoming new geopolitical hotspot. Then how should India position itself in this changing geographical landscape ?
- Ok but, don't you feel technology has made geography irrelevant. Do you agree?
- What is the batch strength in your class ? Why not inclusive ?
- Have you noticed that there have been arguments that IITs cater only to the elite ?

- ok so as engg tell me what is use of geo textile ?
- India development in geotextile sector?

The start of my interview was a bit unconventional but then it gained momentum. The board members seemed very interested in my answers. It felt more like a discussion rather than a traditional question answer session.

Mock Interview - Since this my 4th interview. So i attended only 2 mock interview - Samkalp and Chahal.
Based on my experience I can say that if it is your first interview you should give at least 5-6 interviews to boost your confidence. Otherwise 2-3 interviews are sufficient.

One to One - I attended more 121 than mock interview.
121 with
- Satyam Jain - Avoid this.
- Ravindran Sir - Recommended. Discussed variety of question and it will help you.
- Rahul Sir (ias pcs pathshala) - Highly Recommended. Very much beneficial for structuring and concluding the answer. Sir value addition part was extremely enriching.
- Dharmadhikari Sir - Recommended. Very helpful in confidence boosting.

In a real interview, questions from mock sessions and onetoone discussions will not get repeated but the approach you develop will help you answer random questions. (However I got a bit lucky as 3 questions I had discussed with Rahul Sir were repeated - caste census wala, Bihar- Jharkhand, and sports section wala🙂)

I believe you should try to articulate your answers in an engaging manner. Avoid giving just 1-2 line responses. Show enthusiasm and eagerness in every answer. Try to cover multiple perspectives using succinct keywords.

Lastly all the best to everyone and thanking this channel for providing transcript. It was very much helpful 🙏

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT
Interview Date – 30 Jan 2025
Board – Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh
Forenoon session, 2nd to go. Nearly 45min.
DAF Keywords – Chemical Engineering, Research Internship, Indian Hip Hop Music, Karate, Perspective-taking visualization, Cargill Global Scholars Program, Sociology.

Chairman
1. Reads the DAF – You are {Name}, come from {place}. I see that you have mentioned that you follow Indian Hip Hop music, what is it?

2. From your answer, I see it is more like fusion music rather than a distinct genre of music.

3. What is the origin of Hip Hop music?
a. Rooted in protest movement of Afro-Americans during 70s in USA.

4. (Building upon my answer) So Hip hop music has this protest element, but Indian Hip hop music lacks this, so how is IHH a category of music?
a. Gave some examples of tracks that have this element of protest.

5. What you’re telling is rap music like Tupac Shakur in the west coast etc., is rap same as hip hop?

6. What do you know about Hindustani music and Carnatic music?

7. (Interrupts my answer) What is the textual source from which they are derived?
a. I said sorry sir I’m not aware. Sir said - you know so much about hip hop and western music, you should be aware about our own music as well.

8. Our discussion on fusion reminds me of a new genre that is gaining a lot of popularity – Historical fiction. What is your opinion on it?

9. So according to you it is rooted in history but is essentially fiction?

10. But I think it is distorting history. When people like Amish write about the people of Meluha, most readers don’t distinguish history from fiction.
a. Helps in creating awareness.
b. Leads to curiosity about history, people can read more about true history based on their interest.

11. As per this logic, if there is crime in society, it would create awareness about it amongst people. So, crime is also good for society?
a. Answered as per normal and pathological social facts of Durkheim and impact on collective conscience.

12. So, you have used the Collectivism theory from sociology. What good is this shock to collective conscience? We have seen that in past there have been incidents that have created ripples in society, but the situation remains same and nothing has changed.
a. I began answering that it depends on the type of crime and the severity.
b. (Interrupted in between) I’ll narrow it down for you, let’s talk about crime against women.

13. I see in your DAF that you’ve accomplished a lot in research domain. You did {read out the details and achievements}. It seems you were on course to do your PhD, become a professor, do brilliant research and bring in a Nobel Prize for our nation (says this playfully). Why this sudden 180-degree switch to Civil Services?

Member-1

1. What belt are you in Karate?

2. Which style of Karate do you practice?
a. Shito Ryu

3. Is it related to Shoto-kan? What is the difference between both?

4. After learning Karate, do you feel like beating people around? Or getting into fights?

5. So did you not get the opportunity to get into fights or you don’t like it? (with a slight laugh)

6. Assume that you get into a fight with a random person on the street. He won’t follow the rules that you are taught in Karate like hit above the belt etc. So how would you fight with him?
a. I mentioned that we are aware of basics of street fighting if someone uses sticks etc. Chairman sir adds that if the person has a gun, then the entire situation changes.
b. After my answer member says I thought that like my students in exam you would say that this is out of syllabus (starts laughing). He said that I asked these questions to ease you into the interview, now let’s get to serious questions.

a. I said I’m unaware. Sir said do read on it, it has very interesting history over the years and especially the British era.

4. You must be knowing that China claims Arunachal Pradesh as its part, Ladakh as its part. Even Nepal claims Kalapani region as its territory. We Indians have cultural claim to Mt Kailash, we say Lord Shiva even lived there. Why don’t we also start claiming it as our territory? Something of a tit-for-tat response?
a. Talked about ambition to become Vishwa Guru (Member-4 noted and cross-questioned on this later).

5. So you’re saying we should be a saint and uphold the global order when we have such a large trade deficit with China? Doesn’t it threaten our sovereignty?
a. Cross-question on Chinese FDI incoming.

6. Where is the Chicken’s neck?

c. I requested if I could clarify and gave an example. Sir asked if your visualization of your interview going well has manifested (with a smile).

3. You mentioned about India aspiring to become Vishwa Guru. Don’t you think it is a very ambitious goal?

4. What are the three major challenges that can hinder our progress to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047?

5. (Probably wanted to hear about unemployment crisis in previous answer) Can you think something about unemployment and some recent initiatives that Government of India is taking to address it?

6. What is immigration and why is it a major challenge for the nations? Why anti-immigrant sentiments are on the rise?

7. (Cross question from my answer) So the rise/ resurgence of right in Europe and USA as you mentioned is linked to influx of migrants?
