M1: Are Gandhian values relevant today? You have studied in Nashik ( question related to wineyard industry).Gandhiji also promoted prohibition. Then should we ban wine?So in Gadchiroli,what problems tribals are facing?Why Naxalism still persist despite the government efforts? Origin of word 'Naxal'? As DM,how will you address this issue?

M2:1)Your hobby is indoor planting, can you tell me what is hydroponics? Should we promote hydroponics instead of rainwater harvesting (for farmers)?
2)In rural areas there's dichotomy.They allow girls to wear jeans etc but they don't allow women to pursue jobs.Where should one draw line between traditional and modern values?

M3: Do you watch movies? What was the last movie that you watched and why did you like it? Who was Swami Ramanand Teerth? Tell me other regional leaders in Hyderabad liberation movement. Why ragging is so prevalent in medical colleges?

You have worked in Pune right? How's the traffic situation there? now metro is also coming. What are its advantages?

If I ask you to name only one most important advantage of having a metro, whats will be that?

But I would say Bombay local has been working better than metros for a long time, what's your opinion on that?


M3 :
Since we are discussing architecture, I will stick on that itself. One of our politicians said that Indian building looks ugly like matchboxes. What's your take on that?

Given a chance as an administrator, which types of budings would you prefer in your city, glass and steel or brick and concrete?

When you moved to Roorkee from Kerala, where you readily able to adjust there?

You must have read the constitution right, what's the need of putting DPSP?

Can you name a few DPSP? 

Few DPSPs which were implemented by law or policy?

Panchayati Raj is also one of the implemented one right. So, what's the status of decentralisation of governance in Kerala?

Since you talked about strengths, can you name two weakness of Kerala panchayati Raj system?

I still think the corporates are doing tax evasion, while the salaried class has no escape. This is a sad state. What’s your take on this.

Overall experience: The board was cordial. Questions were opinion based and less factual.

Very close to the mock interview in Sankalp, PW, NextIAS in terms of opinion based questions.

The board was cordial and enthusiastic and appreciated the answers which when I tried to give practical ones, Initially It took me time to settle then I got natural. ( Stay calm and composed andrest the panelists are experienced enough to Judge us)

5. Since you had psir optional, you must know the israel-hamas conflict that’s going on. Tell me what does the term ‘intifada’ mean?
6. What does global intifada mean?

M1:
1. Running is your hobby, so how do you think it impacts mental health?
2. Do you think india lacks mental health awareness?
3. What are the major causes of suicides in india?
4. How do you think we can tackle it?
5. Given isro is undertaking all this research, how do you think this helps a common man? Does it help society?

M2:
1. In any war, its said that there are no victors. But who is winning in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war? Who do you think has benefited the most? (i answered weapons-manufacturing companies)
2. So which country is benefiting? (I answered usa citing the figures and names of companies)
3. Sir said: Say US more freely, we’re not making you sign an affidavit that usa has profited by the war (members laughed among themselves)
4. What is russia gaining from the war?
5. Which other country has gained? (China)
6. Has india also benefited? And tell me how? (Importing cheap oil and selling it to the west)
7. Continuing from the question on running, what maximum distance have you ran?
8. What was your timing for that?

Chairman sir - that’s almost like jogging (members chuckled. I said, sir I’ll try to improve it)

M3:
1. What is this new mission of isro, have you heard about it?
2. Why will isro gain out of it?
3. Tell me about green energy
4. How can EVs contribute to a country’s economy?
5. India’s status in battery manufacturing?

M4:
1. What was your role in the ngo?
2. What are other Indian ngos that have got global recognition or nobel prize? (I couldn’t recollect at the moment)
3. Have you heard about bachpan bachao andolan? (It clicked me, kailash satyarthi)
4. What was his contribution?
5. What is the ‘missing children’ phenomenon?
6. Recently judgement on the r g kar case was given by the court, if you were the judge what would have been your verdict? (I said i would follow the due procedure, take into account gravity of crime, evidence, effect on society, et al)
7. No just give me the judgement. (I gave a similar answer and about belief in judicial wisdom of sc’s judgement)
8. What would be your quantum of punishment?

Chairman sir interrupted - i think you’re being too safe and too cautious with your answers, if i were in your place i would’ve straight away given him the death penalty.
I answered - sir i just want to ensure there’s no miscarriage of justice either. He smiled and said thankyou your interview is over.

Follow up : But you have Engg., courses like these might not be preferred.

2) Cryptocurrency, should we legalise it, as many countries have done. Follow up questions.
3) Traffic Congestion Fees in NYC during peak hours. Should we do that in India as well? Follow up on one point in my answer.

Can't recollect a few questions.

Overall it was factual which led to discussion. I was nervous in the beginning but nerves calmed as board was cordial. Faced issues in economic questions.
