An online version of CS50 will again be offered through the University of Oxford, starting September 14, 2026! Students in the course will meet weekly online with an Oxford tutor, Dr Nicholas Day, and, upon successful completion, will be eligible for a University of Oxford digital certificate.
If you or someone you know might like to take the course, apply at https://cs50.uk. Or send them https://youtu.be/R03gZT5H3Bk!
Dr Nicholas (Nick) Day is a Departmental Lecturer in Lifelong Learning for Data Science and Computing at OUDCE. He has taught at the department since 2016 on a range of programming, software engineering, artificial intelligence and data science courses. He completed his PhD in Computer Science Education (CSEd) in 2020 and now applies his pedagogical research to the development of courses and contributes to the department’s AI Steering Group. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), an AdvanceHE certified External Examiner, and a Professional Member of the British Computing Society (MBCS).

“It’s been fairly well-documented that even when you are not proactively revealing much about yourself, your devices are, your browsers are, your behaviors are, so typically by nature of what you’re clicking on, what sites you’re visiting, how long you’re spending on them, social media companies can create a profile about you… because they’re detecting patterns in those behaviours of yours.”
Professor David J. Malan goes on ABC’s Radio National Breakfast to talk about the nature of social media algorithms and what their regulation could look like.
