β‚Ώ Bitcoin Bounces to $82,500 After Brief Dip Below $80K

Bitcoin's sub-$80,000 moment lasted all of two hours before buyers stepped in and pushed it back to $82,500. The snap recovery coincided with a rebound in Asian equities, where Seoul chipmakers clawed back from their worst close since April. Macro jitters, same-day reversal β€” perhaps the dip-buyers have their alerts finely tuned.

🏦 Deutsche Bank Crypto Custody Launches in Weeks

Deutsche Bank is weeks away from going live with institutional digital asset custody β€” and the product material already tells us what's on the menu: Bitcoin, Ether, and three stablecoins from day one. An executive described a phased rollout, starting with major cryptocurrencies before expanding to on/off-ramp capabilities.

For a bank of Deutsche's scale to move from "exploring blockchain" to "here's your BTC custody" is a meaningful signal of where institutional appetite is heading. The real question: which three stablecoins made the cut?

🏦 €800B in AUM Asks: What Do Crypto Tokens Actually Earn?

Brendan Ma, head of investment strategy at the Arbitrum Foundation, spent 48 hours in closed-door meetings with private bankers and wealth managers overseeing roughly €800 billion in assets β€” and one question kept surfacing: why is ecosystem growth so disconnected from token fundamentals?

In Ma's words, institutions see "business or ecosystem traction that has been divorced from any fundamental." Translation: TradFi money is circling, but it wants to see tokens that actually capture value before committing. Perhaps the hardest question in crypto, asked by the people with the deepest pockets.

βš–οΈ Crypto PACs Drop $52M to Oust Sherrod Brown

Two industry-aligned PACs have spent over $52 million targeting Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown β€” one of crypto's most prominent critics in Congress. The coordinated spending makes Brown's race one of the most expensive Senate battles with a clear crypto policy angle.

When the industry decides someone has to go, apparently it brings a very large checkbook.

β‚Ώ Bitcoin Slides Below $81K as ETF Outflows Bite

Bitcoin dipped to a low near $80,250 as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $409.2 million in net outflows between October 12–16. Outflows have eased from the prior week, but BTC is still struggling to reclaim $84,000 β€” not exactly a ringing endorsement of a recovery.

Rising U.S.-Iran tensions aren't helping sentiment either. When geopolitics and ETF redemptions team up, Bitcoin tends to get caught in the middle.

βš–οΈ Thailand Nabs Crypto Exchange Suspect in 500M Yuan Laundering Ring

Thai immigration police have arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national accused of running crypto and foreign currency exchange services for a money laundering network tied to over 500 million yuan in transactions. The arrest was made on October 17, per The Nation.

Using a crypto exchange as a laundering conduit β€” not exactly a novel playbook, but the scale here is hard to ignore.

🏦 Schwab and Deutsche Bank Dive Deeper Into Crypto

Charles Schwab is moving toward spot Bitcoin trading for retail clients, while Deutsche Bank is expanding its digital asset custody services β€” two of the world's largest traditional financial institutions making simultaneous but very different crypto bets.

One is chasing retail demand for direct BTC exposure; the other is building infrastructure for institutional clients who need somewhere safe to park their digital assets. Different lanes, same highway.

Traditional finance isn't dipping a toe in anymore β€” it's wading in waist-deep.

β‚Ώ Nine Firms Unite to Quantum-Proof Bitcoin's 6M Exposed Coins

A nine-member alliance of crypto firms has formed to set open standards for quantum-resistance, modeled on the Internet Engineering Task Force. The target: protecting an estimated 6 million Bitcoin sitting vulnerable to a quantum attack β€” forecasts put the first practical threat arriving in the late 2020s.

The group's focus is standardizing how quantum-resistance claims are tested, not just made. Given how liberally "quantum-proof" gets thrown around in marketing, that distinction matters. The clock is ticking β€” slowly, but it is ticking.

β‚Ώ Two 2013 Bitcoin Wallets Move $34M in Same Block

Two dormant Bitcoin addresses, both dating to 2013, moved approximately $34 million in BTC within five seconds of each other β€” appearing in the same block (height 971894) on Saturday. Thirteen years of silence, then coordinated action.

Whether this is a single holder tidying up old wallets or something more deliberate is anyone's guess β€” but the timing, same block, two addresses, is hard to chalk up to coincidence.

πŸ”· Analyst van de Poppe eyes $25K ETH this cycle

MichaΓ«l van de Poppe argued on X that market participants are underestimating Ethereum's upside, pointing to a lengthy accumulation period as the setup for a potential $25,000 target this cycle. That's the prediction β€” not a guarantee, and notably it's one analyst's read, not consensus.

Bold call. ETH would need a historic run to get there β€” but then again, "historic" has a way of becoming "obvious in hindsight."

β‚Ώ Saylor floats $100T Bitcoin financial system vision

Michael Saylor took the stage at ParaFi Investor Day 2026 to pitch a future where bank lending, tokenized securities, and bitcoin-backed credit underpin a $100 trillion financial system. He also discussed Strategy's multibillion-dollar BTC treasury and its 12% preferred stock alongside ParaFi Capital's Jeff Park.

Then, true to form, he signed off with a tease: "more orange." Subtlety has never been the man's brand.

πŸ“Š Stablecoin Payments Hit $482B, Up 45% This Year

Stablecoin supply may be stalling, but the money is clearly moving. Analytics firm Allium reports stablecoin payments have reached $482 billion so far this year β€” a 45% jump β€” as Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe wire crypto rails into mainstream card spending.

Supply flat, velocity surging. That's not a bad problem to have.

βš–οΈ Seoul Court Acquits 'Jonber Kim' in $253M Crypto Fraud

A Seoul court has acquitted Park, a 45-year-old Korean crypto influencer known as "Jonber Kim," despite prosecutors pushing for a 20-year prison sentence over his alleged role leading a scam coin manipulation scheme worth $253M. The case collapsed because prosecutors couldn't establish a legal link between Park's deceptive conduct and the financial losses suffered by token buyers.

When the gap between alleged wrongdoing and legal proof is this wide, even a "Coin King" walks free.

🏦 JPMorgan Brings JPM Coin to Ethereum Mainnet

JPMorgan is expanding its USD deposit token, JPM Coin, to Ethereum β€” allowing approved institutional clients to transfer tokenized dollar deposits and settle financial transactions on-chain. The move follows the token's Base launch in November 2025, and was announced October 19, 2026.

Access stays restricted to vetted counterparties, so this isn't open DeFi β€” it's permissioned bank money finding its footing on a public blockchain. Still, 24/7 institutional settlement on Ethereum mainnet is a meaningful step for a bank that once had a complicated relationship with the chain.

🏦 AnchorWatch Launches BTC Custody With $370M Insurance Per Client

Nevada-chartered AnchorWatch Trust Company has gone live with a bitcoin custody service targeting institutions β€” and the headline number is the insurance: up to $370 million per client. The monthly fee caps at $10,000, which, depending on the size of the holdings, could be quite the bargain for peace of mind.

Institutional custody has long been a weak link in the "bitcoin is ready for serious money" argument. AnchorWatch is clearly betting that underwritten, high-limit coverage changes that calculus.

🏦 Metaplanet Buys 93.7% of Nasdaq Firm for 2,100 BTC

Japan's Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet is acquiring a 93.7% stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League via a 2,100 BTC deal β€” and Super League stockholders have already approved it. The combined entity is being dubbed "Superplanet."

The strategic logic: the deal gives Metaplanet a foothold in US capital markets, where it plans to run preferred stock offerings to fund further Bitcoin accumulation. A Bitcoin treasury company using Bitcoin to buy a US-listed shell and then issuing equity to buy more Bitcoin β€” it's turtles all the way down.

🏦 JPMorgan Gives Bitcoin a 10% Return Forecast β€” A First

For the first time in its 31-year history, J.P. Morgan Asset Management has included Bitcoin in its Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions, projecting 10% annual compounded returns over 10–15 years. That figure tops every stock, bond, gold, and real estate estimate in the same report.

The catch: JPMorgan also flags 55% annualised volatility and unstable correlations with other assets β€” enough to keep Bitcoin outside the bank's core portfolio allocation models. High returns, yes. Tidy diversifier, not quite yet.

Wall Street's most cautious major bank just put a number on Bitcoin. That's the headline, whatever the caveats.

🚨 Drift Hacker Moves $61M ETH Through Tornado Cash

The exploiter behind April's Drift Protocol hack has resurfaced, routing roughly 25,700 ETH (~$61.6M) through Tornado Cash two months after the attack. Five Etherscan-labeled wallets still hold ~84,164 ETH (~$194M), so this is laundering in progress, not a clean exit.

The April 1 hack caused ~$295M in losses and was later attributed to a North Korean threat group in a Mandiant investigation. Apparently state-sponsored hackers also observe a cooling-off period.

🚨 NGRAVE Users Hit by $2.65M Phishing Attack

Hardware wallet maker NGRAVE has been caught up in a $2.65 million phishing attack, with on-chain analysts at Bitquery tracing stolen funds into XMR1 purchases on Hyperliquid. Bitquery notes it cannot confirm every involved wallet belonged to an NGRAVE user β€” but the trail is uncomfortable reading for a company whose entire brand promise is security.

Cold storage was supposed to be the safe option. Phishing, it turns out, doesn't need to crack the hardware.

βš–οΈ Ripple Backs SEC Crypto Rules After $150M XRP Fight

After spending over $150 million fighting the SEC in court, Ripple has decided backing the regulator is cheaper than battling it. The company filed a 20-page comment letter on October 20, 2026, supporting the SEC's proposed Regulation Crypto Assets β€” while pushing for one critical distinction: an investment contract is not the same thing as the token sold through it.

Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty called for clear rules to replace the agency's enforcement-first playbook, which Ripple knows intimately. The 2020 SEC lawsuit sent XRP down ~70% in days; a 2023 court victory clawed back roughly $21 billion in market cap and got the token relisted. Apparently $150 million buys you strong opinions about regulatory clarity.
